Kaunas businessman Marija Dubickienė, who loves extreme travel, can speak with LNK’s knowledge of Chad only because a phone stuck to his chest during the search, where the soldiers could not see it.
“The consul said from the beginning that it was very strange that we were back. Because those who detained them grouped together at night, the same group of people who worked as police officers during the day. He said that they had not deprived him of our money and that we had not been shot, “the traveler told LNK.
Chad is in central Africa, closed and rarely visited by tourists. Ms. Dubickienė went to Chad in a group of ten people. The other nine are Russian. They are said to be seasoned travelers. He had permits, visas, routes were agreed with the Chadian authorities.
“We really have been traveling since the 16th, practically only through nomadic tribes, in the desert, sleeping in tents,” he said.
A week ago, in the morning, the traveler heard a knock on the door.
“I just saw that we were surrounded by what is in the movies. 15 soldiers with submachine guns, full magazines. They are not the same as in Africa, they are the type with weapons, but unarmed, ”said M. Dubickienė.
He managed to capture this: armed soldiers showed up to collect the items and took them to the police. They took all the phones, computers, cameras and, most importantly, the passports.
“Take us to the airport of the military base, like a military plane stopped in the movie, maybe 30 armed soldiers,” said the traveler.
At first, the travelers did not know where the armed soldiers were taking them. Later it turned out that in the capital of Chad, a hotel was opened. These travelers will receive meals, but they did not hand over passports. So, travelers in the hotel for a week and in the dark. You cannot fly back because the documents have been removed. And without them you can’t even go out into town.
As 9 of them are Russian citizens, they were visited by a Russian consul. M. Dubickienė says he doesn’t want to care in Lithuania. But she is assisted by the Lithuanian Consul in France.
“They are not receiving any response from the government of Chad,” said the traveler.
Officially, the travelers are no longer detained, but for what they took everything and closed the hotel he did not say. Travelers say there have been frequent changes in government in Chad, so perhaps the permits have been coordinated with some and are now led by others.

“The second option that he told us during the search was that we were accused of espionage,” he said.
M. Dubickienė is passionate about extreme travel in Africa, where no one can guarantee safety for the first time.
It is not the first time and the danger invades her. Just before his quarantine, he traveled through Africa with three other Lithuanians. Two of them were infected with a severe form of malaria, one of the travelers died. But M. Dubickienė continued the journey.
She doesn’t give up in extreme directions even now.
“I don’t really regret traveling, the views are incredible,” he explained.
The Lithuanian Embassy in France declares that a Lithuanian must leave Chad in the next few days.
“The French embassy in Chad issued a temporary travel document to a Lithuanian citizen, made it possible to perform the COVID-19 tests required for the trip,” the embassy provided such a response to the LNK.
It was also mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) recommends that no action be taken in Chad in view of the threat of a pandemic, terrorism and criminal offenses.
