The first test, known as the Full Ship Shock Trials, was conducted on Friday when the Navy carried out a massive explosion near the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, the Navy said in a statement.
The photo and video show a huge burst of ocean water, the American media called it a 40,000 pound (18,144 kilogram) explosion.
The US Geological Survey reported that the explosion in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida was recorded as a 3.9 magnitude earthquake.
The navy “performs crash tests on new ship designs, using actual explosives, to confirm that our warships continue to meet the stringent mission requirements of the difficult conditions they may face in battle,” the report said.
After the tests, the warship will be maintained and repaired.
The tests will be conducted “according to an environmentally friendly schedule, taking into account the known migratory habits of marine animals in the test area,” according to the report.
