The renovated ship “Žalgiris” will carry passengers on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 18 to September.
After leaving the Žalgiris Arena at 10 am, the boat will reach Raudondvaris in one hour, Kačerginė in two and Kulautuva in half an hour. During the trip the Nemunas and their beautiful shores open up.
The renovated ship has a capacity of 70 summers and also has 20 berths for bicycles or scooters.
The passenger ship Žalgiris is in charge and trips are managed by the state-owned Inland Waterways Directorate.
“Our goal is to expand opportunities for Kaunas city residents and city visitors to spend their free time in the most diverse and active way possible, while emphasizing that the ship is a great vehicle. The passenger ship “Žalgiris” has been renovated, adapted for greater passenger comfort: reduced engine noise, renovated cabin, seats, equipped with a cover for rain and sun, “said Vladimir Vinokurov, Director General of the Direction of Navigable Roads.
This year, a new pier has been installed at the Žalgiris Arena, with the possibility of mooring boats. The passenger ship “Žalgiris” will also stop here.
A trip to “Žalgiris” in both directions costs 12 euros for adults, 7 euros for children aged 7 to 16 and 6 euros for the disabled.
A one-way trip, to Kulautuva or any other marina or vice versa, will cost half. Children up to seven years old can swim for free if they don’t take up extra space.
Space for bike or scooter – 6 euros for all age groups except the youngest. The total duration of the trip is 7 hours. You can plan your trip and buy tickets two weeks in advance.
“Kaunas is a city of rivers, so we were waiting for the next changes and we are happy with them. Nemunas Island’s groomed water area and equipped pier will become another center of attraction for Kaunas residents and visitors to Kaunas. the city. All this is another proof that the navigation on the Nemunas is really recovering “, the ambassador of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matijošaitis, did not hide his ambitions.
He attributed the changes to the management change of the state-owned Inland Waterways Directorate and its approach to waterway maintenance.
“Since the end of the construction of the hydroelectric power station, no one has adequately cared for the waterways that require maintenance,” is convinced V. Matijošaitis.
The changes began this year, when the construction of buns began in the Nemunas at the request of the Directorate. About 500 of them will be built in two years and this will provide the opportunity to dramatically improve the waterway.
V.Matijošaitis recalled another important project – a lock at the hydroelectric power station. Such a device would allow the ships of the Nemunas to enter the Kaunas lagoon and reach Poland by water.
The Kaunas Municipality has carried out preparatory work, but V. Matijošaitis has recognized that this idea will require the support of the Government.
