Just a few days ago, the LGBTQ + community received sad news from the Kaunas municipal administration: they were not given permission to organize the march. According to the representative of the municipality Paulius Keras, this is related to the renovation of the infrastructure in different sections or to the fact that the march would cause “disproportionate inconvenience” to the neighbors.
“We cannot restrict freedom of expression by law and prohibit such marches. The municipality is neither for nor against such an event, but first of all we must guarantee and take care of the safety of all Kaunas residents and guests of the city. ”Said P. Keras, deputy director of the Kaunas municipality administration, in a comment presented on Thursday.
After this decision, diverse opinions were not lacking: some supported or condemned the Kaunas municipality, and others asked where the march could take place anyway. A similar issue was raised by artist Algirdas Gépeckas, who offers the LGBT community to meet in Alytus.
“You see, you can say that we are creating the identity of the city and we have analyzed with communication experts that Alytus is a family city. All of our communication was based on that, and a style book was made in that direction. Council members approved the city’s official sign.
Therefore, we thought: if Kaunas rejected the idea of LGBT marches, then Alytus could perfectly assume it ”, the artist is convinced.

A. Gataveckas believes that this city is a great place to organize these types of events. According to him, not only the beautiful nature here, but also the suitable signs for her, and especially “Alytus-myliu”, which emerged a few years ago.
“I thought that the sign would be combined into a general concept, so it could also be a very nice step for the mayor. Both journalists and we have commented on it, but the mayor has not yet spoken on the subject.
I am completely unaware of your approach to human rights. Human rights are important to me and I am not ashamed to make such proposals. ” 15 minutes A. Gataveckas spoke.
And the protection of the participants? Algirdas is convinced that the Alytus cops are prepared for these kinds of situations: “Although I don’t have that information, I think it certainly wouldn’t be the problem that we couldn’t solve.”

Following his Facebook post with a proposal to hold a march in Alytus, Algirdas soon received not only support, but messages of outrage as well. However, he is not angry about it because he believes that they all come from different backgrounds with constantly changing values. In his opinion, some people are simply very uninterested in human rights.
“There are malicious, malicious people who want to spill on any subject. But I understand everything because it is on the minds of those people personally, and I let them have it.
I think that marching is important to avoid hatred, to accept people as they are. And also for the working conditions so that they are equal, because when a person learns from the LGBT community, they experience workplace harassment. I am not even saying that they have been humiliated since childhood. Such psychological things respond to a person’s life, “says A. Gataveckas.
The artist emphasizes that the LGBT community should not be ignored, but on the contrary, help as much as possible. He is also angry at people’s attitude of trying to lock them up at home and not let them go anywhere.

“It feels like they’ve been injected into the stalls somewhere and locked up. We live in this age. It can be said that we have some kind of ingrained hatred towards LGBT people. This is not how it was supposed to be. We still have to improve and solve these problems in some way, “he says.
On the idea of A. Gataveckas 15 minutes He also contacted the mayor of Alytus Nerijus Cesiulis, but said that he had not yet heard of these proposals and could say more in the coming days.
