V. Blinkevičiūtė – on those who left the party, an intentional mistake of the rulers and a message for S. Skvernelis

According to her, the ruling coalition made a mistake by hastily presenting the project and disagreeing with other factions of the Seimas, but did not rule out that a single member of the Seimas would play a significant role in voting for the upcoming elections.

After leaving the party

Last week, some members of the LSDP announced their withdrawal from the party after half of the Social Democrats did not support the legitimacy of the Alliance in the party program, a project signed by the eldest of his group, Algirdas Sysas.

V. Blinkevičiūtė, the president of the Social Democratic Party, stated on the Lietuvos Rytas 24/7 television program that 31 people had left the party since her election and about 50 had joined the party at that time.

“It just came to our notice then. It’s a shame for everyone who decides to leave the party. I think the people who were talked about a lot last week were in a bit of a hurry; you can’t make such a general decision in a case.

On the contrary, with the change in party leadership, we need to find ways to legally regulate the problems of people living together. We can do that perfectly, we Social Democrats do not deviate from our commitments and program, ”said the party leader.

V.Blinkevičiūtė said that no law can be presented, especially one that is sensitively accepted in society without a majority in the Seimas.

“Conservatives and Liberals knew very well that they did not have a majority even at the presentation stage. This is their mistake, and they need to think very carefully about why they did it, ”said the LSDP president.

How would you explain why half of the Social Democrats did not vote in favor of legitimizing the Partnership, which is included in their own 2020 electoral program?

“This bill was not prepared by the Social Democratic Party. We didn’t even get a chance to delve into it enough. Then we can consider it (…) and discuss what strategies we follow, how it responds to our program and beliefs, where we see that we do not agree with something, where corrections are needed. We didn’t have time for that.

Such things are not solved overnight. This is a mistake of the conservatives and liberals – or their deliberate mistake, and they have to correct it, “V. Blinkevičiūtė did not skimp on criticism.

Noting that the vote after presenting it is so that it can be interpreted, debated in committees and amended, so that if the Social Democrats really cared about the establishment of the association, they would have voted “yes”, V. Blinkevičiūtė reiterated that yes. would have worried about the failure, they would have coordinated it with the other groups.

“If you really care, you must first agree with various political parties and factions whether the bill will actually find the support of other political factions to at least pass the presentation stage,” said V. Linklinkiciute.

Single member factor

However, V. Blinkevičiūtė does not rule out that four out of five Social Democrats who did not support the project are single-member members, for whom it is more important to be re-elected than to implement the party’s program.

“It just came to our attention then. Of the same liberals who passed the bill, not even three voted in favor, the politician noted.

“It happened as it happened, but it is definitely not the fault of the Social Democrats, I absolutely do not accept it,” added the party president.

At that time, evaluating the statements of Saulius Skvernelis, one of the leaders of the Lithuanian Union of Greens and Peasants (LVŽS), that the Social Democrats were satellites of the ruling coalition, V. Blinkevičiūtė stated that those speeches were already tired.

“Sometimes it seems like a lack of imagination to me. Because it is constantly repeated: invent something new, men are my loved ones. Don’t eat like a stuck record, it’s a wake-up call, “snapped V. Blinkevičiūtė.

The Social Democrat said that an open party with many years of experience, open to more than one person, even in the opposition, would support the legislative initiatives that Lithuania needs, even if they were provided by conservatives or liberals.

The association bill was not supported by 5 of the 11 members of the Social Democratic faction who participated in the Seimas session: Tomas Bičiūnas, Kęstutis Vilkauskas, Vilija Targamadzė, Liudas Jonaitis and Vidmantas Kanopa.
