As in previous years, the students had to write an essay during the Lithuanian language and literature exam, choosing one of the four proposed topics: two on reasoning and two literary topics. During the review, two authors were introduced for each topic, but they were recommended.
The requirement to refer to at least one mandatory author is maintained, but students will be able to choose it not only among those listed in the topic, but among the 36 mandatory authors listed in the course syllabus, which have also been included in the notebook of homework. .
Criticized the length of the exam
We first spoke with Saulius Jurkevičius, the headmaster of the Vilnius Lyceum, in whose school this exam was organized. First, it received a lot of criticism for the inadequate length of the first exam.
“If we talk about the length of the exam, the four-hour exam really goes beyond any limits. Well, we could find four hour exams only in countries like Lithuania or in several other countries. (…) This exam has been extended for another fifteen minutes, and for students with certain disabilities, up to six hours ”, he said.
According to S. Jurkevičius, this is, to put it mildly, a misunderstanding.
“The length of the exam is a very important factor and normally the maximum length of the exam can be three hours. If the three-hour limit is exceeded, it is already inappropriate and therefore harms both students and the educational process in general, ”he said.
The principal also had difficulty understanding the procedure for allowing computers and dictionaries to be used during the exam.
“During the exam, you need to focus and not get distracted looking for a quote. Imagine if you were allowed to do it during a math or history exam.”

Some were bothered by the remote, others saw relief
Graduates interviewed said they wrote about their father, his daily life, his behavior in the face of a threat.
One of the first twelve graduates to graduate from Vilnius Ozo Gymnasium said the exam was not easy.
“Anyway, it was very difficult, I chose to write a reasoning essay on what a person is doing in the face of a threat. “However, I should pass this exam, although I promise to connect my future with sport,” he said.
When asked if using computers during the exam alleviated the situation a bit, he answered yes.
“It just came to our attention then. They have been used by almost everyone in our classroom,” said the young man, adding that distance education could prevent him from achieving good results.
Julija, a graduate of the Vilnius Sholom Aleichem Gymnasium, was a bit more optimistic. According to her, the subjects were not that difficult and she chose to write a literary essay.
“I wrote about the representation of my father in literature, but there was also something about everyday life. I liked the subject of the father because at school we watched a series of works that I was able to relate to it. I supported Škėma, Šatrijos Ragana, etc. I did not rely on the two recommended jobs, ”he commented.
He also said that he would like to study medicine and believes that at least 70 percent. should charge.
Another student from the Ozo Gymnasium commented that the topics were varied and that it was really possible to write something.
“There were really a lot of suggestions from the authors that we looked at at school. It is true that, compared to last year, I believe that our situation has been taken into account and, as a result, the issues have been softened. I think I’ll really keep it, “he explained.
Twelfth Daniel, who studies at the Sholom Aleichem Gymnasium, said it was not easy for him, although it should have happened.
“It’s a normal topic, but it was very difficult to trust it. I just didn’t read all the tracks and I think those soft tracks are really very complex. Not all of them are interesting and clear. Maybe that was a problem.”
He said that he himself chose a reasoning essay on what we keep for ourselves and what we advertise and was based on Vincas Mykolaitis-Putin and Antanas Škėma.
“I will definitely keep it, but how I keep it is another matter.”
According to data from the National Education Agency, 17,207 candidates chose to take the state maturity test for Lithuanian language and literature this year, and 9,352 will take the school enrollment test.
This year, in order to create better conditions for graduates to perform exam tasks correctly, the duration of all maturity exams, including Lithuanian language and literature, has been extended by 15 minutes.
During the Lithuanian Literature and Language Maturity Exam, candidates will be able to use the digitized works of the compulsory authors of the program on a computer disconnected from the Internet.
This option is, on the one hand, a help for the student and, on the other, a kind of time management challenge. Therefore, everyone should self-assess whether the resources are really needed during the exam. Those wishing to use computers are advised to plan their work properly and anticipate how much time they will be able to spend on it.
The computer can be used for 20 minutes, using the time in one session or twice for 10 minutes. An hour and a half before the end of the exam, the computer can only be used for 10 minutes if there are other students waiting.
The results of the Lithuanian Language and Literature State Maturity Examination are scheduled to be announced on July 15.
July 20 During the repeat session, a school exam will be held in Lithuanian language and literature. This is the only exam that graduates will not be able to pass without passing the Lithuanian Language and Literature State Maturity Exam.
This year, 27,733 candidates have registered to attend the call for maturity exams.
