When asked what is the mood of the graduates this year, K. Merčaitytė assured that every year before the examination session they feel fear.
“A lot of that anxiety, a lot of that stress. Perhaps this generation of ours feels that way, but perhaps that anxiety is even more acute. We don’t know exactly how things will be, maybe we won’t even be able to attend that exam because we will have to be in self-isolation. We may have a little more of that anxiety. “
The LMS vice president says there has been a lot of debate about whether it is better to take exams remotely or by contact, but generally it is difficult to say which is better.
“Distance exams are not easy enough either, they still have to be prepared. Of course, it would be scary if we had thought our whole lives that we would take exams normally on school benches and learn a couple of months ago that we would have to keep them in the computer screen.
I think in that case, that anxiety would be even greater. In any case, we have to look at the epidemiological situation, and now we are not going to change anything and we are waiting for the tests as they will be ”.
Regarding all safety requirements, says K. Merčaitytė, classroom teachers or other responsible employees should inform twelfth-grade students and send a special note.
“That information is spreading, at least in my school. The question is whether it happens everywhere. (…) I doubt that communication is going well in all schools ”.
When asked by the LMS representative if graduates who became ill or found themselves in self-isolation would need a new session, or if they could be remotely retained, they replied that they would have to attend a new session.
“The LMS advocated for a change to add an additional 15 minutes to the exam time. Last year, speaking with graduates after their state exams, they all said they lacked time (…) to move all the answers.
The stress was high enough. I think this stress will not be less this year either. Those 15 minutes too, but in a general context, the question is if they will change something a lot ”.
Can distance learning really lead to lower performance this year? According to K. Merčaitytė, it is feared that they are actually not so rewarding.
“Actually, we have been studying on screens for almost a year. Teachers complain that they could not explain everything, they see some gaps, because not all controls were written fluently, not all graduates participated in the way they did. who may have participated in contact education.
There are many such gaps and we believe they should be reflected in the results. If a third party failed the math test last year in a couple of months of distance learning, and we learned that way for about a year, I wonder what those results will be. “
According to the vice president of LMS, distance education was not easy at a distance, but he did not feel too much difference in other subjects.
“Probably at the beginning of last year the teachers were confused, they didn’t know how to do it and all the lessons were so drilled. Somehow, since this school year, teachers have agreed that it will be necessary to “work” with this distance education, and the situation has improved. “
