ELTA recalls that this week G. Nausėda responded to the letter from Prime Minister I. Šimonytė, in which the Head of Government proposed to change the current procedure for representing Lithuania in the EVS. However, the president did not listen to the prime minister’s call to allow the head of government to travel to EVS meetings, depending on the issues discussed at EU summits.
Commenting on the president’s response, I. Šimonytė told reporters on Thursday that he had no intention of writing another letter.
“I really don’t think I’m going to write a third letter to the president, because it probably won’t be of much value,” the prime minister told reporters in Brussels on Thursday.
After talking for some time about a bill regulating state representation in the EVS, the conservatives temporarily withdrew from this initiative, claiming that the position of the Seimas committees was sufficient to resolve this situation. Matas Maldeikis, the initiator of the project, points out that he will discuss with the entire TS-LKD faction on concrete actions, but does not rule out that if the president and the prime minister cannot reach an agreement before the next meeting of the EVS in June, they will return to the project.
