understanding the special service offers an end

For about half a decade, the reflections of the Lithuanian institutions and the attempts to abolish the political asylum granted to A. Šarijus before the Maidan Revolution lasted so long.

Lithuania seemed wrong when this character became one of the main spokesmen for anti-Ukrainian propaganda not only in that country, but also in Europe.

In mid-May, Lithuania revoked the asylum seeker status of A. Šarijus and even declared him an undesirable person.

But he immediately appealed against such a decision, so the states are likely to still have a long fight in the multi-tier courts. And the former Lithuanian pupil himself has been living in Spain for a long time, from where the Ukrainian police should try to scratch him.

He played the Kremlin bagpipes

As Belarus continues to erupt and refugees arrive in our country from the repression of the local regime, the issue of Ukrainian refugees is suddenly held hostage these days. A. Šarijus is one of the most famous and at the same time the most scandalous.

Lithuania granted this man political asylum in 2012, when he fled Ukraine during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych.

Several cases were brought against A. Šarijus and law enforcement tried to arrest him for vandalism due to one incident.

At that time, the journalist himself constantly explained that he was being persecuted by corrupt politicians and law enforcement officials for criticism and investigations into corruption, and that he was at high risk in his home country.

But the story took a new turn after the 2014 Maidan Revolution, when Yanukovych was overthrown, Russia occupied Crimea, and war broke out in eastern Ukraine. Sharijus began publishing various plots and information that were wholly or almost entirely in line with the Kremlin’s anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

Over the years, Shariy has become a popular social media figure, a blogger whose absolute majority of fans are pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian, as well as citizens of Ukraine.

In Ukraine, he even formed his own party, which gradually began to emerge from the margins of politics and become increasingly successful in various elections.

And A. Šarijus himself always explained that he does not scold the state or the nation, but only the government, and therefore performs the work of a journalist.

In Ukraine, there were more and more famous speeches and more and more information about the fact that this figure can be financed directly by Russian special services, so that he can afford to live extensively not even in Lithuania, but in the Netherlands, and later in Spain.

Recently, Ukrainian law enforcement and special services have started investigating these cases, which also explain behind the scenes possible shadow funding of their party.

A. Šarijus categorically denied all suspicions, and while he was abroad he had even taken to the court of our country, who had criticized him and allegedly slandered Russian opposition figures visiting Lithuania.

Collecting important data

Lithuanian state institutions and special services had already started trying to abolish A. Šarija’s political asylum in 2015.

Informal knowledge of this has also spread to the public sphere.

But it is more difficult to do than to say. Because a member of the European Union is subject to various international obligations and criteria.

Why are the Department of Migration and other institutions deciding to do it now?

High-ranking officials directly involved in the process informally told Lietuvos Rytas that the base was eventually provided by special services, which allegedly eventually collected important data on this person and his non-transparent funding from Russia.

But A. Šarijus and his lawyers appealed to the Migration Department, the first instance judicial proceedings have already started.

Spain also has to deal

According to officials, even if Sharijus eventually loses his political asylum, it does not automatically mean that he will have to leave the EU or even be deported from it.

After all, Spain, where this character resides and to whose authorities ours addressed, has granted him a residence permit for other reasons.

Therefore, Madrid may decide to revoke said authorization.

Spain has not granted him permission just because Lithuania has granted him political asylum. It simply took advantage of our previous status as a stepping stone and path into EU space.

Consequently, Spain or any other country in which it would be and should decide. But it is possible that Ukraine will send its request there, which will demand his extradition, “a senior official explained to Lietuvos Rytas.

The fact that in order to catch A. Sharia, our country’s officials were able to coordinate their actions with the Ukrainians, suggests the fact that the first unofficial news with references to the “application of Lithuanian law” was spread for the first time in Ukraine.

Sharia himself sent an intimidating salute from the sunny Spanish coast to Ukraine and Lithuania, explaining that the latter, being a very insignificant member of the European Union, simply cannot do things like deprive him of political refugee status.

I found a solid account

However, soon the clouds over the head of the old Lithuanian neighborhood abruptly darkened.

The Ukrainian media has published data that the account of A. Shariy in a branch of one of the German banks in Russia has been repeatedly loaded with large sums of cash and was brought by natural persons, Russian citizens.

Furthermore, it is stated that of these amounts, which amount to hundreds of thousands of euros, A. Sharia bought real estate in Spain.

He even has some villas in there, and their specific addresses have even been published in the Ukrainian media.

These data were investigated not only by the Ukrainian authorities but also by the Spanish ones.
