The government made the decision on Monday in response to a Ryanair airliner from Athens to Vilnius, which forcibly landed in Minsk over the weekend.
After the government meeting, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said that flights to be made through the Belarusian air control zone would not be coordinated in Lithuania.
Transport Minister Marius Skuodis says the dog restrictions at the moment will affect 26 destinations, mainly in the south: Turkey, Athens in Greece and others. According to him, this means that airlines will have to choose another route.
The ban will not apply if the aircraft only crosses Lithuanian airspace.
On Monday, Lina Nuobarienė, a representative of the Oro Navigacija air navigation company, told BNS that a so-called notam (notice to airmen) had already been sent to all airlines.
On Sunday, Belarus forcibly landed a passenger plane of the Irish airline Ryanair flying from Athens to Vilnius in Minsk.
