Scandinavian airline SAS has said it will avoid Belarusian airspace

The SAS report follows a recommendation from the Swedish Transport Agency urging Swedish airlines to consider avoiding Belarusian airspace.

“This recommendation is valid until the situation and the problem stabilize. We are closely monitoring developments,” said a spokesman for the department of maritime and air traffic.

“We are going to follow the instructions and adjust the related flights,” SAS told AFP.

According to SAS, this will only affect the route between Oslo and Kiev, which runs twice a week.

The decision was made the day after a 26-year-old Roman Protasevičius, a Ryanair plane flying from Athens to Vilnius, landed in Belarusian airspace due to an alleged bomb threat.

Along with R. Protasevičius, his girlfriend, who is a Russian citizen, was also arrested.
