The Seimas NSGK and Foreign Affairs (URK) committees held an extraordinary meeting on the landing of a passenger plane in Minsk.
According to L. Kasčiūnas, the government has a plan that includes proposals for sanctions against Belarus.
First of all, it is about isolating the Belarusian airline Belavia in the West.
The possibility of turning a neighboring country into a no-fly zone is also being considered. According to L. Kasčiūnas, there are several options for this: do it in a multilateral or regional format.
“Lithuania is already planning to make such decisions so that planes flying through Belarus cannot land at Vilnius airport.” If Poland did the same, Ukraine, the other Baltic countries, Belarusian planes, Belavia and whoever flies from Belarus they would have serious problems, since the highway would be left only by Russia and the North, which would be a great blow “, commented President of Seimas NSGK.

There is also talk of economic sanctions. L. Kasčiūnas said that the European Union’s fourth-level sanctions package would be serious.
It is said that not only targeted sanctions are being considered, but also state-owned companies, which are extremely important to the functioning of the Lukashenko regime.
Also, about people from an environment close to the regime, called wallets or pockets of A. Lukashenko.
According to L. Kasčiūnas, another issue was raised in the joint session of the Seimas committees regarding people seeking asylum in our country due to repressive regimes.
“From what we have seen, it is true that the Belarusian KGB can operate not only within the country, but can also conduct special operations in the European Union. And this is already something of a turning point and needs to be addressed.
Probably many people in the West realized that this plane could be from any country. If the special operation had taken place, be it a German plane or some other plane, it would also have been lowered substantially, the same operation would have been carried out earlier, ”commented L. Kasčiūnas.

He stressed the need to consider whether the security infrastructure for protected persons, political refugees, is sufficient to prevent such operations.
The parliamentarian stressed that the opposition figure itself must be willing to take self-protection measures.
“If you want to be a free person and freely publish all the moments of your life, it will be very difficult to protect yourself. Here is the solution for each of them. It cannot be taken and controlled. They also make their personal decisions, ”said L. Kasčiūnas.
At present, there is no information that representatives of the Belarusian opposition in Lithuania may be threatened.
In addition, the president of the Seimas NSGK recalled that there are also citizens of the Republic of Lithuania whose search has been announced by the Russian Federation.
“Our prosecutors and judges in the case of January 13 are in search. We must protect those people. This is not only instructed, without any doubt, but to ensure that they do not get into such situations,” said L. Kasčiūnas.
The regime seeks to silence critics
When asked if there is a real threat to Belarusian and Russian opposition figures in Lithuania, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said Belarus was ready for unprecedented action to silence opponents of the regime.

“We have to take this into account, both for ourselves and for the host country and, of course, so that the people we are sheltering really feel a great responsibility. Their safety also depends on their actions, ”he commented.
According to the president of the Seimas URK Žygimantas Pavilionis, its parliamentary committees on European affairs will approve the mandate of the European Council on an additional question concerning Belarus.
That position is likely to be presented tomorrow, supplemented by the plenary session of the entire Seimas.
Ž.Pavilionis pointed to the need to support the government, raising questions about sanctions, which sometimes stalled in Brussels.
