The Seimas formed a new CEC: it will be headed by Petkevičienė, Udri’s candidacy was rejected

98 members of the Seimas voted in favor of the candidacy of J. Petkevičienė, 15, 19 parliamentarians abstained, one ballot was damaged.

During the secret ballot, the candidate proposed by Justice Minister Evelina Dobrovolska, Jonas Udri, lacked support. 35 members of the Seimas voted in favor of his candidacy, there were 62 against, 34 abstentions, two ballots were damaged.

The political scientist Šarūnas Liekis, the Director of the National Library Department, the Acting Deputy Director General for Science and Strategic Development Andrius Vaišnys, the official of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Seimas, Inga Milašiūtė, the lawyer Laura Martinaitytė, the current member of the CEC, Andrius Puksas, have been appointed members of the CEC.

The Seimas will not vote on the CEC members delegated by the parties.

All newly appointed members will take office under oath in parliament.

J. Petkevičienė – lawyer, non-partisan, has worked in the Government Chancellery and the Department of State Security, in 2006-2009 she headed the Main Commission of Official Ethics. The president of the Central Electoral Commission is appointed by the Seimas on the proposal of the president of the Seimas.

The law stipulates that the new CCA Seimas will be constituted no less than 140 and no more than 200 days after the parliamentary elections.

It is made up of persons appointed by the president of the commission, two presidents, two ministers of justice and two members appointed by the Lithuanian Bar Association as parties nominated by the parties that have received the mandates of the members of the Seimas in an electoral district .

Furthermore, party representatives in the CEC cannot be more than other members.
