The last trip to Šiauliai was accompanied by a 36-year-old doctor who, according to relatives and colleagues, committed suicide after a psychological persecution at work, the so-called mobbing. Exactly a week ago, the leadership of the Šiauliai Republican Hospital fired the doctor and the next day the woman committed suicide. And he allegedly left a farewell letter with the names of four hospital executives.

And in the hospital, a silent farewell to the doctor began in the morning. People light mourning candles and bring flowers to honor a young anesthesiologist – resuscitator. The entire community was surprised, both doctors and patients. This is what people say:
“My mother was in the cardiology department at the time. Very good doctor. The most sincere of all. I was very shocked by the defeat, I just cannot recover. Forgive me.”
“It is a pity for the young doctor. Yes, it was very good. We are very sorry.”
“Very good doctor, professional, friendly and collegiate. As much as I saw her at work. It’s a pity that this price is like this, ”says cardiologist Loreta Rasutė Rezgienė.
“When a person seems optimistic, determined, brave, determined to fight and chooses a solution of this type, a way to fight against the system, it is very painful, because for some I have that association, as I have heard from parents, with Romas Kalanta, “Sakavičiūtė.
“He was a very nice and dear colleague. They really are not afraid to always say what they thought, they called to fight against others, the position of the administration that we see today. They are not here, ”says anesthesiologist-resuscitator Kęstutis Stanelis.
Doctors at the Šiauliai Hospital say that the administration broke the institution’s tradition: after death, they did not put a photo of the deceased, they did not light candles.
“We always did that with our outgoing doctors. The ban is an aggravation, not a fact that people fade away and say goodbye. It is a show of respect and solidarity, but it does not aggravate the situation, as the administration now evaluates, ”said L. Rasutė Rezgienė.
Management retaliated by consulting with psychiatrists. It is said that the situation in the hospital due to this tragedy is already tense. However, some doctors not only disobey the leadership, but also express their outrage.
“It’s low and sad, it’s just that some people don’t understand how to respect a person, even after a while,” says the man. Dr. Robertas Mažutavičius.
“It just came to our knowledge then. The charge of the administration and some psychiatrists. This administration, hypocritically under the guise of psychiatrists, forbade the photo to help, burn candles and everything else. So here there is criminal activity”, says anesthesiologist-resuscitator Kęstutis Stanelis.
Agree and others:
“It just came to our notice then. It all goes to that. We’ve been beheading the whole time, so we can do anything.”
“It just came to our attention then. In fact, we made our own, we made our own opinion, we showed our point of view, and here they showed their point of view.”
Doctors say that the colleague’s problems at the hospital began about two years ago, when she and her colleagues complained to the Labor Inspectorate about the head of the Cardiovascular Center for psychological violence and for allegedly spending time at home on their own tasks. and be employees of residents. .
Since then, medical conflicts with the management have escalated. Managers allegedly held on to her for the smallest detail, made unfavorable work schedules, talked about the firing, and eventually accused her of falsifying documents. The hospital doctors are open, it was not only the suicidal doctor who suffered.
“Especially in the last couple, for three years, that repression has felt that free opinion cannot be expressed because it has suffered,” says R. Mažutavičius.
“She worked as a cardiologist in a hospital for 40 years. And our family is affected by Nora Kupstytė, so the mobbing probably started … we applied it for the first time probably two years ago. My wife Danutė Andrulienė worked as head of the cardiology department, and when Nora Kupstytė arrived, terror and psychological pressure began, she had to quit her job. If we had to, say, attend court, I, my wife, could be the witness to face him directly, ”said doctor Alfonsas Andrulis.
“The administration is far from the people, from the doctors, from the staff. There is no common language, there is no common consensus, ”says psychiatrist Petras Volkovas.
The hospital management does not comment on anything today. TV3 Knowledge was unable to contact the manager or other subordinate department heads. For its part, the State Labor Inspectorate confirms that it has received four complaints from doctors at the Šiauliai Republican Hospital in the last two years, two of which were collective.
The doctors complained of the psychological violence used by the head of the Cardiovascular Center and possible violations during the structural reorganization of the hospital. A doctor who came to Anapilin wrote two more complaints. In the first, he requested a workload of more than one position. Once the dispute was resolved, the hospital reached a peace agreement with the doctor.
“The second complaint was received in 2021. The person submitted an application to both Šiauliai and the Vilnius Labor Disputes Commission, requesting to cancel the official warning received from the manager. It was also requested that there be no discrimination, harassment or adverse effects at work. The applicant’s application was denied because it had no consequences at the current time, such as a lack of evaluation of the employee’s evaluation or a reduction in remuneration.
“We are taking steps to really look at what the complaints are about, where there are key areas for change. Our goal now is not to punish, our goal is to find out why this disagreement or employee welfare, working conditions, depending on they are inappropriate, ”said Simona Bieliūnė, advisor to A. Dulkis.
Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė says that mobbing is a cultural problem and regrets that even with the measures taken, people under psychological pressure often do not seek help.
“The special tools seem to have been developed, but they seemed to be somewhat liberated because they did not feel supported. Let’s say the anonymous reporting line was initially quite active, as far as I know, because it was after the previous very painful event at the Republican Hospital in Lazdynai, ”says Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.
Relatives of the suicidal doctor promise to seek justice and go to the prosecution with evidence of harassment at the hospital.
