The defendant Ilnaz Galiavijev “was accused [nužudymu]; he fully admitted his guilt, ”an investigator told the court.
On Tuesday, 19-year-old Galiaviev began shooting at students and teachers at the 175th gymnasium in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, where he had previously studied. The attack killed nine people, seven children and two teachers, and wounded 20 children and three adults.
The alleged assailant was arrested immediately after the shooting, and prosecutors on Wednesday called for the arrest of I. Galaliaev for two months.
When asked by the judge if he was opposed to being arrested, Galaliah replied, “No.”
He then agreed to all the charges against him, a correspondent for the Interfax news agency reported from the courtroom.
“I agree with everything,” said the defendant.
Tuesday’s shooting in Kazan is one of the biggest disasters of its kind in Russia in recent years.
May 12 was declared a day of mourning in Tatarstan.
The shootings shocked the entire country and prompted President Vladimir Putin to order a review of the country’s gun control laws.
Following the attack, Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the lower house of Russia’s parliament, called on lawmakers to consider a bill next week to tighten controls on gun licenses.
In Russia, shooting in schools is relatively rare, as educational institutions are generally well protected. Buying firearms legally isn’t easy either, but hunting rifles can be registered.
