“The person who leads the CEC must have principles, maintain an equally demanding and fair attitude, distancing himself from personal ideological attitudes or preferences. An innovative approach is also needed, because change is inevitable. At the same time, the ability to balance experience with progress, act responsibly and with quality is important. That is what I expect from the proposed candidate ”, – says the head of parliament when introducing the candidate to the presidents of the CEC.
J. Petkevičienė is a lawyer, non-partisan, of impeccable reputation, with experience in the Government Chancellery and the Department of State Security. From 2006 to 2009, he chaired the Central Commission of Official Ethics. The candidate for the presidency of the CEC also had to participate in academic activities: he gave seminars and conferences on professional ethics and corruption prevention, which were also heard by members of the Seimas and other politicians. Since 2019 J. Petkevičienė is a member of the Lithuanian Rifle Union.
The president of the Central Electoral Commission is appointed by the Seimas on the proposal of the president of the Seimas.
