The exceptional relief of Neringa, the windswept dunes covered with mountain pine forests, open magical panoramas of the Curonian Spit to visitors. The great dune ridge of the Curonian Spit stretches over most of the peninsula, strengthening it and sheltering villages along the coast. One of the most visited peaks of the great chain of dunes is the Parnidis dune in Nida.

A cognitive path runs through it. Due to its impressive size (52 m above sea level) and beauty, the Parnidis Dune has become one of the favorite places for visitors to the Curonian Spit. What other impressive panoramas can you see when visiting Neringa?

It is suggested to try the panoramic route of Neringa elaborated by specialists in tourism, according to the report of the Information Center of Culture and Tourism of Nida “Agila”.

Nida – Monte Urbo

Urbo Hill is a 52.56 ha geomorphological reserve in the Nida settlement. The name of this mountain comes from the word “drill”, that is, “drill” holes for the seedlings in the sand. It is one of the first dunes planted by the locals. The plantation works have been carried out since 1874. At the same time, at the initiative of the Royal Government, the construction of the old Nida lighthouse began.

A cobbled path was built with 200 steps leading to it. You can still find these steps now. Meanwhile, the lighthouse was blown up during the war, and a new one was built in its place, which we see today. An observation deck is installed on Urbo Hill, which is 50.8 m high.

From there you can see the rooftops of the city of Nida, the Curonian Lagoon, the Parnidis dune and the western Baltic Sea. The Urbo Hill observation deck can be reached from all sides; Many interconnected hiking trails have been built throughout the Urbo Hill area.

Preila – Preilos kopa

Dune of Preila, height 53.3 m. also called Dune of the Artists. During the Soviet era, various painters liked to paint on him, so his middle name grew among the people of Preili.

You can reach the viewpoint of this dune in the first house from the Nida side (Preilos str. 97) by turning left. To get to the observation deck, you will need to cross about 200 steps.

However, it will definitely be worth the climb: from the dune there is a panorama of the Curonian lagoon, on the right you can see the great Cape of Preila, further ahead – Cape Bulvikis, the widest place of the Curonian Spit. Did you know that the great dune of the Curonian Spit breaks only in the widest parts of the spit: Cape Bulvikis and Birštvynas, where the dunes were washed into the lagoon?

Pervalka – Skirpsto Set

The Skirpstas dune is a state protected natural heritage object, a geomorphological monument near Pervalka. Its height is 51.5 m and it covers an area of 58.4 ha. To get to the Pervalka settlement from the Smiltyne – Nida road, you will have to overcome this dune. The dune is forested (mountain pine). From the top you can see the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea.

A monument to Ludwig Réza was erected on top of the Skirpstas dune to commemorate his 200th anniversary. This place for sculpture was not chosen by chance: from here, the place where you can best see the bloated village of Karvaičiai is the birthplace of Liudvikas Rėza.

Juodkrante – Aries Hill

Aries Hill is located on the territory of the Juodkrante Landscape Reserve. There is also a natural monument: the southern part of the parabolic dune complex, the old stands of Scots pine (fragments of the old forest), which are already more than 230 m. The total area of the Juodkrante Landscape Reserve is 260 ha. It is located between the Juodkrante Recreation Area and the Nagliai Nature Reserve.

From the Avinas Hill viewpoint (height 35.8 m) you can see the alluvial plain complex of Cape Avikalnis, the shore of the Curonian lagoon, the gray (dead) dunes in the Nagliai nature reserve, fragments of the ancient Juodkrante forest.

The easiest way to get to the Avinas Hill viewpoint is by car, driving from the Klaipėda side at kilometer 23 of the Klaipėda – Nida road, on the right side of the road.
