“Currently we have 15 people who have unfortunately lost their lives,” the mayor of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, told reporters.

The city’s Department of Civil Defense previously wrote on Twitter that about 70 more people were injured in the dramatic accident.

Local media showed a security camera recording at around 10:30 pm. At local time (Tuesday, 6:30 am Lithuania), a subway overpass in southern Mexico collapsed when a train ran through it. Cars passing through the country were also reportedly under the wreckage.

The mayor of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, rushed to the scene of the disaster. The videos show the collapse of the flyover at Olivos station and the orange and yellow train cars hanging down and the crashed cars below. Numerous rescuers were working at the scene.

The accident occurred on line 12 of the metro, whose construction was overshadowed by complaints and reports of infractions.
