As announced by the PAGD, at 12:39 a.m. notification of the explosion and subsequent fire in the building on Liep Street was received.
After the explosion, a biological treatment building, another chipboard building about 100 meters wide and 150 meters long, caught fire and was extinguished by large firefighters. During the disaster, 28 people were evacuated from the building, eight were taken to the hospital and five were admitted to the intensive care unit.
Vinsas Janušonis, director of the Klaipėda University Hospital, told BNS on Monday evening that two 59-year-old patients are in serious condition due to extremely severe burns, one of them is undergoing artificial respiration.
The territory where the building is located belongs to the company “Vakarų medienos grupė”.
