According to Edita Zdanevičienė, representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD), the first reports of downed trees were received around 6pm from the Trakai and Vilnius districts.

Subsequently, reports were recorded throughout Lithuania and felled trees were removed in the central part of the country, as well as in the north and south of Lithuania.

Most of the trees were removed from the road, one car was also damaged in Kaunas, two trees were cut down and two cars were removed in Šiauliai.

There were also four cases of fallen trees breaking electrical cables.

“The last jobs were recorded around 8.30 am, but we expect it to increase during the day, because not all roads were crossed at night,” E. Zdanevičienė told BNS.

Edita Gečaitė, a meteorological forecaster with the Hydrometeorological Service, told BNS that a cyclone from the south hit Lithuania on Sunday night, covering the entire territory of the country except Palanga and, in part, Klaipeda.

According to her, heavy night rains were recorded in many areas, with snow and sleet in the southeastern part of the country, mainly rain, and in the northern and western parts.

“In the morning, the highest rainfall was in Šiauliai, where 45 millimeters of rain fell, 6 cm of snow, 37 mm of rain were recorded in Raseiniai and 34 mm in Panevėžys and Biržai,” said E. Gečaitė.

According to the synoptic, the cyclone will continue to “travel and turn towards Lithuania” on Monday, the greatest amount of rainfall will occur in the central and south-eastern districts, but at night it should go away.

During the day, rainfall is expected in many districts, in places: heavy rain and drizzle, wind gusts can reach up to 20 m / s.
