The approximately 2 km long “Kopa” Nature Cognitive Trail with a forest dune and an observation deck stretches right next to the Gaižiūnai landfill in the Jonava district. 15 minutes even last year I wrote that place there were no information booths, signs, banks.

Organizers of the campaign, which took place on Sunday, write on the event page that the continental dune Dumsiai is one of the most attractive and interesting places to visit in Jonava.

According to them, the use of the dune will not only pose a threat to the object itself, but will also limit the access of residents and guests of the district to this unique corner of nature.

“No one has listened to the concerns and sincere requests of the Jonaviets until now,” say the organizers.

According to them, the protest seeks to draw the attention of the public, national political leaders and the media on this sensitive issue.

During the protest, an open letter from the protesters to the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense and Armed Forces was signed.

One of the protest organizers, Žilvinas Galimovas, wrote on Facebook that the example of the Republic of Užupis symbolically established the Dumsiai dune republic and established its independence from all other territories, including the territories of military training camps.

Asta Galdikaitė, Head of the Department of Public Information of the Ministry of National Defense 15 minutes previously informed that the territory of the sanitary landfill is being expanded based on the Government Regulations 2012-2016 program.

It states that the essential reason for the development of the infrastructure is the desire to ensure the readiness for the deployment of the Allied forces or the reception of the incoming reinforcement forces on the territory of Lithuania.
