Lake “disappeared” in Molėtai district: its deprived local community does not wait for another season with jet skis

Isn’t it late and hasn’t it been?

The Turks moved in some time ago when they discovered that the lake next to their house was not called Gėlintas, as they had long thought.

The long narrow bay (about 3.8 km), which had the name Gėluotas, is the same as Lake Galuonai.

The locals were used to the fact that the lake in their village is somewhat separate from the great Galuonai Lake, its eastern bay.

Only the register of rivers, lakes and ponds of the Republic of Lithuania says otherwise: Lake Gėluoto has never been registered or deregistered there, and near the town of Inturkė there is only Lake Galuonai.

According to the Molėtai District Municipality, the Turks asked for the name of the lake in their village.

The Inturkė community has also sent inquiries of this type to the Environmental Protection Agency.

The latter, as well as the Ministry of the Environment, requested clarification from the Molėtai district municipality.
