Radvilė Morkūnaitė – Mikulėnienė, the eldest of the ruling Lithuanian Christian Democratic Union-National Union (TS-LKD) faction, believes that Ramūnas Karbauskis, the leader of the “peasants”, never wanted to be sincerely involved in the party’s negotiations on this document.

“The president of LVŽS Karbauskis does not mention this for the first time, it seems that even before the first meetings of the agreement he has expressed it, it is obvious that there was no sincere desire to participate on his part. Karbauskis himself has left Seimas, he may want his party to withdraw from everywhere. Perhaps this is the fashion here, ”said R. Morkūnaitė – Mikulėnienė to Eltai.

As ELTA has already written, R. Karbauskis, president of the “peasants”, stated that he sees many reasons why the LVŽS faction in the Seimas could withdraw from the working group that prepares the guidelines of the agreement on education. Eugenijus Jovaiša, member of LVŽS, does not rule out that the “peasants” are thinking of withdrawing from the negotiating table, and according to R. Karbauskis, the opinion of LVŽS will largely depend on the position of the “peasants”.

If the “peasants” decided to leave the ranks of this working group, it would be the second case in the Seimas of this legislature, when the LVŽS withdraws from joint work with other political forces in parliament. At the end of March, the “peasants” left the ranks of the working group created by the parliamentary board to prepare the reform of the electoral system.

The arguments of the “peasants” are not convincing

However, the elder of the TS-LKD group says that the arguments of the “peasants” as to why the work of drafting the guidelines of the agreement on education is potentially impossible is simply not convincing. According to her, it is perfectly normal for very different opinions to be expressed in the process of preparing a national agreement. According to the politician, it is very important to assess the importance of the objective of this working group, therefore, emphasizes the Conservative, the parties must arm themselves with patience.

“There will certainly be more concrete things, but patience is a healthy thing,” said R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė.

A. Sysas, the eldest of the LSDP opposition faction: R. Karbauskis needs to think about work, not look for excuses

Algirdas Sysas, the eldest of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) faction, did not impress the peasants’ thoughts about withdrawing from another deal. The parliamentarian believes that conclusions can be drawn from the negotiations when the final text of the document is drawn up. Only then, in the opinion of the Social Democrat, can it be decided whether a signature can be placed under the document.

“I think that if you form a group and you can work, you have to make an effort. I don’t know what the result will be, but when you do nothing, of course, you can’t expect any change, “said A. Sys.

The older of the LSDP faction was not convinced by R. Karbauskis’s thoughts that the conservatives were supposedly seeking to involve the “peasants” in their “behind-the-scenes games”, after which the LVŽS would have to justify to the public that participates. in agreements with the rulers and makes decisions together. A. Sysas believes that R. Karbauskis should think more not about excuses, but about constructive criticism and possible jobs.

“It simply came to our knowledge then. He will not accept, then it is another matter, then it can be criticized. And when criticism has not yet been made, here it is not a constructive opposition”, the Social Democrat A. Sysas categorically cut off the thinking of the ” farmers “.

ELTA recalls that the representative of LVŽS in these negotiations, E. Jovaiša, said that he would consider the decision to withdraw from this agreement after April 23. a scheduled party meeting in which the parliamentarian will assess whether the negotiations are trying to move towards a consensus on specific goals and measures.

However, the leader of the “peasants” R. Karbauskis doubts the possibilities of the parties to agree on specific objectives due to the supposed excessive ideological differences between the political forces. The LVZS president’s skepticism about such negotiations is also fueled by the fact that, in his view, the parties’ National Education Agreement could become a tool for conservatives to impose their views on other political forces.
