“We want to sell cars, rent a house, and fly back forever. We really realized that life is too short to live by the established norms in society: home, children, career. We realized that we never you know when your last day will be, ”Milda says now.
And it all started in December with a coronavirus infection. While Milda followed all the instructions and worked remotely, the insidious virus found a way into the house. “It would probably infect me on Saturday, at the mall, because I just had to visit it. On Wednesday I took my mother to the dentist and at night I felt bad ”, recalls the interlocutor.
Milda says she had no idea she might be infected, so she passed the virus on to her mother and husband. The youngsters overcame the infection quite easily, but Milda was very concerned about her 70-year-old mother’s condition: Thank God you made it. “
An unexpected trip to Mexico
Milda and Mantas had previously planned a trip to the Philippines, but had to cancel it due to a coronavirus. After the illness, the couple were overwhelmed and realized that it was time to seek a new trip, but Mexico was never the couple’s dream country.
“Due to the pandemic, most countries did not allow tourists, so we could only choose between the Maldives and Mexico. The Maldives has fallen because we need adventure, and the Maldives is a land of quiet tourists. We chose Mexico just because there was nothing to choose from, ”says Milda jokingly.
At first, Milda was a bit intimidated by stereotypes about danger, high crime rates, and the country’s backwardness, but says she fell in love with the country right away.
“While we were there, we saw how beautiful this country is, how beautiful and warm the people are. So the date of the trip back home kept lifting, lifting and lifting. We managed to stay for 2 months and now we have recently returned to Lithuania ”, says the interlocutor.
The people of Mexico were very impressed by the warm and friendly people of Mexico, but they do not forget the amazing nature of Mexico. “In Mexico you can find everything, if you go north, you will find snow there in winter, in Mexico there are deserts, mountains, canyons, old people … In other countries there are some things, and here there seems to be everything you need”, Milda .
Unconfirmed stereotypes
While spending time in Tulum, the couple visited a bar where they heard the story of crocodiles flying free, in a lagoon, right next to the bridge. Crocodiles could be seen in the small town of Boca Paila, 30 km from Tulum.
“We did not have transportation, but the hotel provides bicycles, we are thinking about what it is like to travel those 30 km here. to see the crocodiles, ”says Milda with a smile. However, at first glance, the short distance became a real challenge.
“The road to Boca Paila had many potholes, but those wells are not like ours, they are about 30 cm deep. We only had 2 liters of water, which was very little for a hot day. We finally reached the bridge and the story we heard was confirmed: we saw crocodiles.
The locals warned that there was only one jungle around Tulum and told them to walk alone along the path and warned us to come back bright. It was already 5 in the afternoon and it was getting dark at 7 in the afternoon. Jaguars come out at night, of which there are many. They bit the hotel owners’ dog, they thought several times that the puppy would not survive, ”says Milda.
When it was decided it was time to go home, the couples had an unpleasant surprise: the tires of both bikes were damaged in the hole. “It takes us 30 kilometers from the hotel, at 2 pm until dark, without water, and there is no connection on the phone,” Milda shares her impressions.
Milda and her husband noticed a passing truck full of Mexicans. Realizing that this was their only escape, the Lithuanians stopped the truck. Otherwise, by not speaking with such gestures, the Mexicans helped load the bikes and agreed to take Milda and Manta to the hotel. The 30 km journey on the extremely bad road took an hour and a half, and Milda does not hide the fact that bad thoughts had started to appear in her head.
“We have already wondered if we will make it to the city, because those stereotypical Mexican stories are in our heads, but we were transported safely home. When we got to town, many tourists standing at the back of the truck looked at us with questioning looks, they shouted if we needed help here, ”Milda recalls now with a smile.
I started writing a blog
Mexico left an indelible mark on the couple, and Milda shared the most beautiful place visited. Tai: Mahahual. Cruise ships often arrive in the resort town with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, but ships are no longer available due to the pandemic, so according to Milda, the true beauty of the place can be seen.
Šiauliai says there were surprises when traveling through different cities. While in the city of Podlaskie and noticing that it was right next to San Cristóbal, he decided to visit this town as well. When she left Podlaskie, it was 35 degrees, and when she entered San Cristóbal, the girl saw people walking in ponchos.
“Do we think how hot they are? Once we got out of the car, we figured it out. It turns out that the town is 2 km high, on a mountain, and it is around 19-21 degrees of heat during the day and drops to 7-9 degrees at night. We weren’t interested in running so we had to apologize for the jackets and warm clothes and get them out of the suitcases, ”says Milda jokingly.
The interlocutor reiterated how warm Mexicans are. “Very warm and very kind people, when asked, they will always tell the way and say the right thing when, for example, in Thailand, they often lie. They will, without any benefit, recommend the best places, they will tell you where to go, ”says Milda.
After a long journey, the girl says that she realized that Mexico is not what we often imagine it to be, so she decided to share her experiences and impressions with others and show that not everything is what it seems. Thus was born the blog “Apkeliauk Mexico”, where Šiauliai counts the places visited and consults the Lithuanians who plan to go there.
“I did not love that country in the same way, but when I went there I saw and wanted to show Lithuanians that Mexico is not a backward state, to show how beautiful this country is. Knowing how Lithuanians are still afraid of them, after hearing only stereotypical stories, I came up with the idea of creating a blog, with the help of which more people could love this country ”, revealed the interlocutor.
The girl does not hide that her relatives, when she heard that Milda and Manta want to move to Mexico permanently, were alarmed, but she says that the country is not far behind, and it is difficult to notice the great differences between Lithuanians and Mexicans. settlements.
When asked if she would not feel the longing for her homeland and if she would regret leaving life in Lithuania, Milda opens: It is a shame to leave the companions because we have all become very close, but we no longer want to live by the established standards.
The coronavirus situation has made us think about how we live and what we really want from life. Do we live a happy life or do we feel that someone else will bring happiness? “Milda said.
