In the man’s family, only his grandmother had an oncological disease: he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. There were no cases of male testicular cancer.

The interviewee recalled that he went to the National Cancer Institute (IMI) shortly after the diagnosis. At that moment, he felt extremely shattered.

“It just came to us then. Doctor Ulys helped me as a psychologist because I was very broken, but they assured me that everything would be fine. And today I’m sitting in front of you. After the chemotherapy did the surgery, I was still looking at the tests, they were fine That said 100 percent. I’m cured, “Kuzma said.

The husband remembers feeling great support from his family, wife and children at that time. The diagnoses were not hidden from those around him, because, according to him, testicular cancer is the same disease as all the others.

According to the head of the department of oncourology at IMI, urologist Dr. Albert Ulys, testicular cancer is a disease of young men. It is most often found in men ages 18 to 24.

Testicular cancer can only grow in the testicle itself or spread to other tissues. The doctor says that sometimes the cancer in the testicle grows to the size of an ostrich egg.

“In this case, the cancer spread to the lymph nodes, causing swelling and then excruciating pain. This case is atypical, but it does happen. Even abdominal pain can inform this cancer, ”said Dr. A. Ulys.

As usual, an interdisciplinary medical commission was convened before Kuzma’s treatment began. Which treatment was best for the patient was discussed.

“When we saw Marius, his condition was not enviable, there were huge lymph nodes. But after 3 courses of chemotherapy, good results were achieved, the lymph nodes contracted. After investigation, we found that there was still some active cancer in lymph nodes. After discussing again with the doctors, we decided to remove the lymph nodes from some organs. Happily, the answer after that was that the disease had been overcome. We have all the confirmations that Marius is healthy, but we will still have to monitor it for another 5 years, “said Dr. A. Ulys.

The disease develops slowly and causes symptoms to pass through the eyes.

According to the doctor, often the disease reports various symptoms, but they can be completely insignificant, so men do not pay attention to them.

The most common symptom of this cancer is a lump, an irregularity in the testicle. For this reason, it is extremely important that the man himself have a testicular test once a few months and see if there are any changes. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for men to pay attention to the disease when they begin to feel pain.

“It is very important to see if the testicles are not the same size; most of the time, the cancer develops in a smaller testicle. Sometimes the cancer appears at birth and you only wake up between the ages of 18 and 25 years of age. It is said that between 18 and 44 years of age the disease can occur. Lithuania’s 5-year survival rate for testicular cancer is the lowest in Europe (it reaches 84-88% and gradually improves, but in Western countries it reaches 98%). Dr. According to M. Kinčius, this may be related to the delay in the diagnosis of the disease and the fact that many European countries are trying to centralize oncology services. Here in Sweden, where there are 8 million. population, there are only two centers where testicular cancer is treated, at that time there are 10 such wards in Lithuania.

Each patient can contribute to the early diagnosis, on a regular basis, once a month or two, by performing a testicular palpation. Testicular self-examination should be a routine from adolescence.

Upon reaching the doctor, a palpation is performed first, and then an ultrasound examination. If cancer is still suspected, blood tests, CT scan are performed. When the diagnosis is confirmed, the testicle is operated on.
