After the publication of “Kauno diena”, the police took an interest in the scammer: hard times await the potter?

Last week, in the Kauno diena newspaper, we wrote about an old man who was misled by “sincere” scammers. The grandmother bought “gold” cutlery for 320 euros. Jurga, who wrote to the editorial board after publication, said that she and her husband had to fall for this scam, but the spouses were able to resist the spells of their “sincerity.” Following the information released, the Kaunas Police also became interested in the scam.

The grandmother she described last week assured her grandchildren that she didn’t need pots or cutlery, she just wanted good things for her loved ones.

Eglė from Kaunas told about the trap his grandmother fell into. “I want to warn you about scammers. Grandma had just returned from a walk in the Nemunas with a set of pots, knives and cutlery. A person claiming to be Georgian (speaks Russian, offered to speak English, but her grandmother does not speak) He told the story that he would rush from the conference on the fly and confiscate the pots, so they donate them and they just need to pay a little for “gold” cutlery – 650 euros. My grandmother said: “I want to call my son because I don’t have that much “. Then the person replied:” No, no, don’t call, that’s enough. “Then the grandmother paid him 320 euros. It turns out that the same story happened three years ago to the aunts of a friend in Lower Shanthi too, like this Be careful, because they seem to have constant success if they are active for so long. I add to the story: my grandmother had no money during the walk, she took it home and then took the money out of the house. Georgia was with the car ”Eglė wrote on the social network s Work the cunning scam scheme.

History repeats itself

My husband already wanted to buy because here it is also cheap. But I realized that we didn’t need those pots and we didn’t buy anything.

As mentioned above, after reading the story told by Eglė, Jurga from Kaunas also applied for the editorial office of the portal. On March 15, Jurga’s husband shopped at a store in the Kalniečiai district, where they spoke to him.

“Walking aside, he says, ‘Maybe you can show me where the road to Karmėlava is, I want to drive, but I can’t.’ My husband says, “Okay, I’ll show it.” The man began to explain, but the stranger asked them to show him the direction, to ride together. I don’t know how he managed to get in, but the man said he was talking fascinatingly. As he was driving, he said he had gifts and the man realized that maybe they needed them, ”Jurga told reporters on the kauno.diena.lt website.

After returning home, Jurga’s husband invited his wife to the countryside, where he was waiting for “gifts” and scammers. “So my husband went to the store and came back to that man and said, ‘I brought you gifts.’ They both spoke there, a text very similar to the one described in Kauno Diena. I went to see those gifts, there were pots and knives. We had a very long discussion. In the photo, I am with my husband, and that darker man had pots, all kinds of forks. He began to tell us that he was leaving the conference, that he did not have money for a ticket and that we would buy. My husband already wanted to buy because here it is also cheap. But I realized that we didn’t need those pots and we didn’t buy anything. After a long discussion, we stand out in this way, ”Jurga told journalists on the kauno.diena.lt portal.

Monetary maneuvers

The scammer was busy: initially offering gifts and then deciding to ask 600 euros for them. “It initially offered for 600 euros, then it landed up to 300 euros, later, up to 100 euros.” However, we still haven’t bought, “said the Kaunas resident.

When asked if those pots and cutlery really looked gold, the woman smiled: “No, they were beautifully packaged. I immediately realized that there was nonsense here. And I said to the man: “How were you not afraid to ride?” He said he was very friendly, talkative. And really, he communicated very sincerely. “

Initially it was offered for 600 euros, then it landed up to 300 euros and then up to 100 euros. In a word, we still do not buy.

“I understand from the conversation that it can really be the same (scam, – aut. Past). The photo shows the machine numbers, it was with a white car. Is it maybe the same? You should show it to the grandmother, maybe recognize it ”, said the interlocutor.

According to Jurga, he did not contact the police about the incident. “I just … laughed and explained that a man wouldn’t start with those anymore,” the Kaunas resident said.

The police were interested

Odeta Vaitkevičienė, Chief of the Communication Branch of the Kaunas County Police Chief’s Police Station, stated that the police had not received a report about the grandmother being misled by a scam. As the officials were not contacted about the case, after the information in the public space, the officials began to clarify the circumstances. The old woman and her relatives were found and contacted. They did not write a statement, they had no complaints, so the pre-trial investigation has not been started, “the police representative commented on the situation.

After all, “sincere” scammers got the police’s attention. However, we share the photo you sent with the Kaunas Nemunas Police Station officers working in the territory, who will pay extra attention while working in the territory. We also write to the neighbors, noticing suspicious people, immediately informing the officials, noting their appearance and / or make of car, state numbers ”, said the Chief of the Communications Branch.
