“I have several candidates, but so far, since I don’t have a leading candidate, I really wouldn’t want to reveal my last names,” V. Čmilytė-Nielsen said in an interview with Radio Lithuania on Wednesday.
“The deadline is approaching, the parties and other institutions have presented their candidates, when we have a complete composition, the Seimas will decide. (…) It should be late April or early May, “said the head of parliament.
The Central Election Commission is formed by the Seimas no less than 140 and no more than 200 days after the elections. The deadline is in the second half of May.
The Minister of Party and Justice, the Lithuanian Bar Association and the President delegate their representatives to the CEC. If the representatives proposed by the parties meet the requirements of the law, the Seimas may not reject them.
In all cases, the members of the CEC appointed by the Minister of Justice, the President and the Lithuanian Bar Association must be more than the party delegates.
The president of the Central Electoral Commission is appointed by the Seimas in a secret ballot at the proposal of the president of the Seimas.
President Gitanas Nausėda appointed Professors Šarūnas Liekis and Andrius Vaišnis to the new CCA.
