In the park near Brandon, a small town in eastern England, around 7 a.m. local time on Friday, officers found the body of a murdered woman in a pond. On Sunday night, it became clear that the murdered was 35-year-old Lithuanian Eglė Vengalienė.
“It just came to our attention then. This is a tragedy. And the investigation of such crimes, whether in Lithuania or the UK, really receives special attention,” says Linas Pernavas, UK police attaché.
The president of the Lithuanian community in the UK says that five of the woman’s children have been orphaned.
“It just came to our knowledge then. The suspect was also detained. She is the mother of five children and certainly orphaned children. We do not expect to find any other information yet on Tuesday,” says community president Alvija Černiauskaitė.

How the Lithuanian died, British officials have yet to reveal. Still, they report that a 46-year-old man was arrested on Friday afternoon. He was charged with murder after being questioned. They were known to those killed, but local police did not make the man’s identity public. However, information floats in the public sphere that this murder is a tragic family drama. The woman was possibly killed by her husband, the father of her children.
“This is exactly what I have heard from public information, but, as I said, I cannot confirm or deny it, because I have not yet received official information from my colleagues. As I mentioned, I hope to have it in the near future ”, says L. Pernavas.
Linas Pernavas says that the relatives of the murdered people living in Lithuania have already contacted the embassy regarding the care of the five orphaned children: “Now they are in foster care and of course they pick it up, at least at least beginning to be together. “
Brandon is home to only about 9,000 people. The local community affected by the murder comes together and raises funds for the murdered family.
“It is only through social media that the message is conveyed that if someone can help, donate money so that a woman’s body can be transported to Lithuania,” said A. Černiauskaitė.
Locals are already bringing flowers to the place where the body was found, and their closest friends share the sensitive words “The Christmas tree was a good mother, a good wife, and a very positive person who loves life.”
