In the Japanese sky, it is an enigmatic object: we have no idea what it is

A video made by television channel staff in the northeastern city of Sendai shows a globe-shaped object atop a cross-shaped structure, reports reuters.com.

Representatives of the Sendai Meteorological Service said the object appeared before sunrise and hung in the sky for nearly an hour until it was finally covered in clouds.

With the late afternoon, the mysterious object became the third most popular topic of discussion on Japanese Twitter, whose users created a variety of theories, including North Korean UFOs and balloons to launch propaganda flyers.

One user stated that perhaps the facility is spreading the new coronavirus, adding: “I was overwhelmed by a very bad feeling, as if Godzila was coming soon.”

PopcornParty010 has created a ridiculous imitation of the front page of the London Times, whose headline reads: “Sendai equated to the ground: a nightmare.”

Police officers could not immediately be reached for comment, and a Sendai official indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that the size, origin and purpose of the facility had not yet been determined. There have been no attempts to catch the object since the afternoon.

“We can’t imagine what it is,” said a reluctant representative of the weather service. “Maybe some kind of weather monitor, but certainly not ours.”
