Bielinis: Conservatives understand that some issues can be discussed with the LSDP.

The ruling Lithuanian Christian National-Democratic Union (TS-LKD) also, according to him, understand the importance of supporting the Social Democrats as part of the important issues for the ruling coalition.

“Realizing that the ruling majority is very small, one or two members of the Seimas dominate, it is natural that during a riskier vote it is really important for the Conservatives to have the support of someone else from the opposition. I think they understand perfectly well. that the Social Democrats are the political force with which to negotiate, speak, not on all issues, but on some of them. In my opinion, they see a certain counterweight in the Social Democrats to the skeptics of the ruling majority, who may not support a theme or another ”, pointed out L. Bielinis.

The Lithuanian Green and Peasant Union (LVŽS) faction and the Labor Party faction have reached an agreement to work in the opposition. The Social Democrats did not join them, arguing that they do not yet have a permanent party leader.

However, according to L. Bielinis, such a position of the Social Democrats, in his opinion, could damage the party’s image.

“Such a position, a self-isolating presence of some kind, I would not say creates favorable conditions for their image. Some voters, citizens of society who tend to support the left, begin to look at the Social Democrats more cautiously. As a result, they may losing votes in the next elections and general support. (…) Their current situation is very detrimental to them and the longer they remain in this state, the more likely they are to lose more and more votes, “said the VMU professor.

At the same time, however, L. Bielinis pointed out that the division between the LSDP and the peasants is quite clear.

“It all depends on the Social Democrats themselves: they often categorically refuse to cooperate, to support the peasants or the workers, and that position really creates a distance that neither side can cross. I think the Social Democrats should look more flexibly at a possible harmonization of positions, and this would allow them to get closer to the peasants and workers ”, said the political scientist.

Dumbliauskas on supporting the socdems: otherwise the rulers might not succeed

At that time, Vytautas Dumbliauskas, associate professor and political scientist at Mykolas Romeris University, stated that the ruling coalition on certain issues had the support not only of the Social Democrats, but also of some representatives of the Mixto Seimas group. Any support, he said, is important for those in power, as most are very fragile.

“The Social Democrats, in my opinion, should act as separate as possible from the peasants, because it is important to them because of their identity. In his opinion, the Social Democrats could support good decisions and in this case the ruling majority could not even win here, because it is very fragile, and now the Freedom Party has begun to show its ambitions, its difference, “said V. Dumbliauskas.

However, he pointed out that, according to the political scientist, it is very important for societies to maintain a balance, not to identify too much both with the peasants and with the conservatives.

“The Social Democrats cannot support too much because their voters don’t like the National Union. The whole problem is that the TS-LKD has its own loyal voters, but some other voters don’t even like this party. The peasants played this card. : During the four years of their government, they tried to mobilize that so-called left-wing electorate, creating all kinds of commissions. Thus, said V. Dumbliauskas, it is important that the LSDP support some of the government initiatives without deviating from its ideology.

“The Social Democrats must think very carefully along the lines so that their constituents are not angry, so that they can explain to the electorate that they only supported those decisions of the ruling coalition that benefit the left electorate, the state, the nation,” he said the political scientist.

He said he believed that the LSDP could “maneuver” this millet between the two mills: the ruler and the peasants.

“The peasants are a one-time ship, maybe they won’t be in 2024, especially if Skvernelis leaves, everything, forks for them. The Social Democrats must realize that the peasants are temporary and try to keep their face, not to join any people in any coalition or opposition ”, emphasized V. Dumbliauskas.

The political scientist pointed out that such action, when the left party supports some of the right-wing initiatives that seem appropriate and logical, and vice versa, is a democratic action.

Sinkevičius: we are in opposition, but we do not lose common sense

In turn, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, acting president of the LSDP Delphi He claimed that the talk of some kind of agreement between the Socdems and the rulers was just a finger.

Although they have not formally joined the opposition cooperation agreement signed by the workers and the LVŽS, the Social Democrats, according to M. Sinkevičius, are and will be working in the opposition.

“There are representatives of the LSDP and the faction in the Seimas de facto opposition. De jure We are not affiliated with the two opposition parties. This is because we are currently electing new leadership, we have taken a break, not wanting to make a final decision in an uncertain situation. We have decided that this time, unlike before, we will decide at the highest party level whether we will join the common opposition or whether we will remain alone but in the opposition, ”explained M. He stressed that the LSDP “has no idea of ​​connecting to rulers in any format.”

Apparently, even some rulers are already so proud or try to give other political organizations shades of red, accusing us of separate votes, either for Jakubauskas or for human rights.

I will only say that we are not the group that participates in the opposition to the opposition and that there really are those votes in which it is not out of a desire to help, to support the rulers, but because there is a question of common sense or questions of rights As humans, we as a party are relevant by ideology, it can probably be noticed in the future that the Social Democrats vote on one issue or another in the same way as the rulers, ”said the acting president of the Social Democratic Party.

As an example, M. Sinkevičius presented the candidacy of Vytautas Mizaras to the judges of the Constitutional Court (CC). This candidacy is not supported by the TS-LKD flank of the Christian era.

“We believe that it is common sense and in the public interest to appoint judges of the CC, not to try to delay the process. (…) In a state governed by the rule of law, doing legal nihilism and not appointing judges, because someone does not like something, it simply does not mean what specifically, we do not intend ”, said M. Sinkevičius.

The Social Democrats also easily agreed with the ruling on the appointment of Birutė Sabatauskaitė, daughter of Julius Sabatauskas, a member of the LSDP faction and with long experience in the field of human rights policy, as controller of equal opportunities.

However, M. Sinkevičius emphasized that on some issues the rulers should not wait for the support of the Social Democrats.
