A drunken fugitive who has cracked down on police cars will be tried. Paulius Jasiukaitis, the prosecutor of the Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office, drafted an indictment and handed over a criminal case to the court for destroying foreign property in a universally dangerous manner and driving while intoxicated.

TR, a 36-year-old man from Panevėžys, is sitting on the bench, who collided with two police cars while fleeing the officers, and inflated 2.06 per thousand on the alcohol meter.

The Panevėžys County Police Chief Commissioner received a report about a suspected driver, possibly intoxicated, on the night of January 22 this year. Soon, the patrols noticed the Audi A6 car with German registration numbers entering Panevėžys.

When he was stopped by the police, the Audi driver did not stop. While the officers were chasing him, the fugitive obstructed a Volkswagen Caddy police car and continued on his way. After a while, Audi delivered another official car – a Volkswagen Transporter minibus, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

The refugee was detained in the Kupiškis district after about an hour of hunting in the city and the Panevėžys district. After seeing a special device called a “hedgehog” stretched out by highway officers, an Audi driver stopped, but then deliberately hit another already beaten police Volkswagen Caddy and was arrested.

After arresting the fugitive, it became clear that TR Man from Pan TRėžis had not obtained the right to drive a car and was drunk. They gave him a medium degree of intoxication.

The court had allowed him to remain in detention.

TR was convicted several times in Lithuania and several foreign countries, and the last time he was released just over a month before the incident.

The pre-trial investigation initiated due to this incident was carried out by officers of the Panevėžys City and District Police Station AVPK Panevėžys, and the investigation was conducted by the Public Prosecutor of the Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office Panevėžys Regional.

Damage to police cars is estimated at 2,000. 695 euros. According to the prosecutor in charge of the case, P. Jasiukaitis, the defendant admits his guilt for driving, when more than 1.5 percent drunk is detected, and for damaging the property of others in a universally dangerous way, at least until the beginning of the proceedings judicial. He claims to have done it because he was intoxicated with alcohol.

The Penal Code provides for a fine, restriction of freedom, arrest or imprisonment of up to five years for these crimes.
