The participants of the city-initiated program “Kuriu Vilnius” and one of the winners, Jurga Daubaraitė and Jonas Žukauskas, proposed to revive the 0.7 ha territory. The project “Strumila Garden”, which was established by them, will be presented to the public on April 22.
Creative leisure objects are planned in the future community garden, the existing vegetation will be supplemented with typical plants from Vilnius gardens. The authors of the idea planned three essential spaces in the future Strumila garden: a vegetable garden, an open space for events and a play space with leisure facilities, according to the municipal report.
In the garden space, it is proposed to install a commemorative fence commemorating the activities of J. Strumila, the pioneer of scientific horticulture in Lithuania, and an outstanding planting of plants and flower beds. It is proposed to hold public meetings and events in the open space; a small tribune has been designed for this purpose. The leisure area will feature creative leisure facilities.

There are currently about 60 units in the projected area. Inventoried vegetation: tall trees and shrubs. According to experts, all of them are in good condition and must be nurtured as an essential basis for the development of the garden vegetation. Taking into account that the garden will be created in an intensely urbanized part of the city, these spaces would be complemented by the lush vegetation typical of the city of Vilnius, forming noise and pollution barriers.
The developers of the project hope that in the area of the station, which is currently undergoing major changes, this authentic attraction will become a place for residents to dedicate their time, and both the two-year-old child and the history researcher will be able to obtain familiar with the history of plants and the city. It is expected that after the creation of the Strumila Garden together with the Public Institution “Creative Education”, the School of Creativity will also carry out educational activities here.

The municipality, together with Lietuvos Geležinkeliai, has announced an international architectural competition for the redevelopment of the station territory. The tendering task includes the railway station complex, the station square and the transport terminal. The planned changes are expected to allow the opening of many old closed spaces in the Station area in the coming years, as well as new public functions, jobs and residences.
