According to epidemiologists, this suggests that the situation is improving in two crucial areas: social institutions and medical institutions, although the general epidemiological situation in the country remains difficult.

“At the end of March, we have already seen a significant improvement in the situation of the institutions that provide social services, where both employees and residents have been vaccinated. Now, when comparing the outbreaks, we can speak carefully, but we can already talk about the improvement of the situation in medical institutions, which is really determined not only by doctors, but also by the acceleration of the vaccination of chronic patients ” says Giedrė Aleksienė, Acting Director of Infectious Disease Management.

At that time, the most active outbreaks were registered in educational institutions last week – 49, the previous week – 46. According to epidemiological diagnoses, most of the outbreaks were registered in preschool educational institutions last week, that is, in kindergartens. childhood.

According to experts, this may be related to the general increase in people’s mobility, the increasing number of social contacts and the non-decreasing number of infections in families.

“It is very clear that the family environment is extremely important when it comes to controlling the infection. Generally speaking, we see situations where the infection reaches families of different social origins and continues to spread to other social settings where members of those families work, study, or visit.

Therefore, we must pay special attention to the members of our family, monitor the feelings of our parents, the children with whom we live, so that when we feel the symptoms alone, we isolate ourselves immediately and thus stop the spread of the virus in the social settings. we visit ”, says the doctor. epidemiologist Daiva Razmuvienė.

According to her, although outbreaks in kindergartens are a cause for concern, the results of schools so far allow us to talk about better trends: more and more are opening their doors, no significant outbreaks are observed.

At the time, when evaluating outbreaks in individual sectors, it can be seen that a similar number of outbreaks remained active in commercial and manufacturing companies compared to two weeks: 22 outbreaks were recorded each and 15 outbreaks in the construction sector. .

In the furniture manufacturing industry, where the week of March 22-26. An almost double increase in the number of outbreaks was observed compared to mid-March, with a sharp decrease from 26 to 5 active outbreaks last week.

In addition, last week there were nine active outbreaks in transport and logistics companies, and six in each of the companies in the clothing and food industry.

A total of 279 active COVID-19 outbreaks were recorded in Lithuania at the end of last week.

The NVSC notes that an outbreak is a sudden spread of a communicable disease that affects a limited number of people and / or a limited area, that is, two or more interrelated cases of the disease in time and space.
