According to Ramūnas Matonis, the most common explanations for going to another municipality without the necessary need were statements that he goes to relatives, parents, to rest in another city, to walk along the seashore.
“People don’t even lie, they say: I thought it would happen, I would fall, I thought there would be no pole,” a police representative told LRT radio.
On the other hand, he stressed that there was not much traffic on the roads during Easter.
“On Friday night, when traffic flowed from the capital and on some of the main roads, there were traffic jams, but they were not very high compared to last weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, the traffic was not intense, there were not many cars, ”said R. Matonis.
“We can probably just thank people for listening to the calls not to travel, to stay home,” he said.
By guaranteeing restrictions on movement between municipalities, the police are intensifying controls on people traveling by car and public transport during the long Easter weekend.
To stop the spread of COVID-19, the government lifted the ban on circulation between the country’s municipalities from March 27 to April 6, with the exception of ring municipalities.
It is allowed to travel to another municipality only for work reasons or for those who have properties there.
