“I am a dog trainer, I have my own training school, so I work with other people and with my dogs. The quarantine has changed the lives of all of us, that’s why we moved to the town ”, says the interlocutor.
She is also a volunteer at the “fifth foot” shelter, so if possible she has someone at her home to take care of her temporarily, and she will also take photos of the homeless at the shelter; has been interested in photography for several years.
Today in the village of Vilija there are five happy dogs running – three German Shepherds – Viper Wild Wolf (7 years old), Ramulė de Sapieginė (2 years old) and Marta, protected from the refuge “Fifth Leg” when she was ten years old. (this year). now he is 12 years old); as well as crossbreeding Drama (5 years), taken from the aforementioned shelter, and animator Only Love Antante, also called Kanda (2 years)
Besides dogs, Vilija also raises two cats, which were found on the street – very young – Kordule (11 years old) and Devil (8 years old). Rabbit Jūris, from a shelter where he was found because someone dumped him sick on the street, appeared as a host at Vilija’s house and went from a small fluffy ball to a 4.5 kg rabbit.
Another star is the broiler Swan, which was rescued from the poultry farm last year. From the canceled broiler, she became a home-grown, trained, and loved hen.
“At home we also have a silk rooster named Glamor, whose feathers look like fur or down, he lives outside in his house and 9 chickens roam freely around the fenced area: Vesta, Aušra, Regina, Gražina, Coco, Vorė, Swastika, Šmėkla and Pienė – and the rooster Joseph.
We also keep goldfish in the aquarium, we breed African snails and spider birds.
All the animals get along and can spend time together freely and amicably in the yard: dogs, cats and chickens, but I never leave alone unattended. In addition to training, I also do children’s education, show performances at birthdays and summer camps. In training, I like tricks more, so both my dogs and the chicken rabbit do a lot of tricks, ”says Vilija.
He adds that all his life and leisure are pets, so taking care of them is a routine and a pleasant routine, a fun lifestyle.
As the saying goes, there is nothing wrong with going wrong – chickens that have been kicked out are actually more fortunate than the rest, they are living very well!
– You share moments in the life of your animals. Tell us, how did you manage to train the rabbit Juris and the beautiful chicken Swan?
– The whole story of the training started with the three rescued rabbits. I noticed that they respond to their names and run off immediately. Rabbits lived freely in our house, I didn’t see the point of keeping them in cages. One of them, the rabbit Jūris, who stayed with us at home, started polluting everywhere, so I started wondering how to teach him to do it neatly in a box, and I decided to train like a puppy. I encouraged him by the things he did on the spot and so he learned more and more different tricks. Today, the rabbit pays for many of them: roll over, crawl through the tunnel, between the legs, etc.
So it became interesting to me, what about chickens? The broiler Swan lived in the hen house, but the remaining chickens rejected him; I found him plucked, wounded and wounded, so I had to separate him from the others.
Now you know how to climb an arch, turn in a circle, go around a turret.
Initially, the hen lived in a fenced garden during the day, at night we took her to the guest house, and in the morning we took her back to the garden. She slept with the dog boxing. And now the same: the day you walk where you want, the night you enter boxing and we took him to the cabin.
True, when she recovered, I tried to take her back to the tribe members, but they categorically refused to accept her.
Since the hen is still a flock bird, it needed company, so it began to communicate with us and the dogs in the yard. I noticed that she really liked our company. I finally saw that when we called her by name, she was running away, so I started training.
Now you know how to climb an arch, turn in a circle, go around a turret. I taught her the same principle as dogs: I encouraged her with treats for good deeds. At first the biggest treat was the cereal, but when you tried the dog treats the cereal became too lean (Serie).
As the saying goes, there is nothing wrong with going wrong – chickens that have been kicked out are actually more fortunate than the rest, they are living very well!
By the way, chickens are very intelligent animals and the saying ‘stupid as a chicken’ does not correspond at all with reality. When people see what the swan is capable of, it is often said that they would not be offended at all if they were called chickens. I admired them because they cannot have worse contact with humans than dogs or cats. Chickens enjoy communication, being with people, it is only important that they feel safe and confident, this helps them to develop.
– Can you say that the principles of dog training are also suitable for training other pets?
– Yes! The most important thing is not how delicate you are, but rather any connection between you and the animal. You need to trust and feel connected to the host.
Here, the rabbit also works for the usual food that it receives every day; he just enjoys communication and wants to cooperate. It is necessary to create the desire for the animal to work. The rabbit gave in to training quite quickly since he lived with us at home, among other pets, dogs.
With the hen, things were different: he had to live with the members of his tribe, but it turned out that he won the chicken lottery, he escaped from the chicken coop and the muskrat hens and today he lives a wonderful life, running around the yard. .
It is very unfortunate that broilers live so little, usually more than a year, and this is the age of the swan. We have other examples: here, in the refuge, the broilers “Three piglets” lived up to five years. Broilers are truly amazing birds and much friendlier than laying hens.
When people see what the swan is capable of, it is often said that they would not be offended at all if they were called chickens.
– And like cats, do they give in to training?
– I’m more of a dog person (laughs), but cats are called by their own name, and I didn’t do more training. I am sure that great results can be achieved with cats – they tend to cooperate and can be well trained. It all depends on each animal individually, because animals, like humans, have their own character, traits.
– In his account, he not only shares the adventures of pets, but also advises people not to buy numbered eggs 3. What should we know?
– Empty cages are currently organizing an initiative and asking for the purchase of eggs marked with the third number, since the hens that lay them are in the worst and most cruel conditions of the time, in cages and laying eggs for as long as possible. they lie and their lives end sadly.
I advise you to choose eggs with other numbers, organic; it is important that the chickens that lay them are raised freely and live happily.
– What dreams do you have in the future?
– My animals are my dreams, my family, my work and my life. The greatest wish is to continue their activities, which have been stopped due to the pandemic and quarantine. We look forward to receiving lessons and training activities with like-minded people.
