Crews of two tanker trucks, a chemical accident response team and a fire engine were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters dispatched to respond to a possible accident wore protective suits and self-contained breathing apparatus.

The general helpline in Kaunas, Virvių street, in the UAB Margūnas territory, reported smoke from the railway tank at 6 pm 15 minutes.

Firefighters rushed to fence off the area and evacuated six residents from the nearest home.

After inspecting the tank, firefighters did not notice any damage to its construction. The concentrated nitric acid may have started to evaporate due to the resulting temperature difference.

The inspected tank was handed over to UAB Margūnas employees, who began transferring the concentrated nitric acid in it to sealed containers.

The remaining firefighters at the company’s facilities monitored the transfer of chemicals.

As the risk of a chemical spill no longer existed, people evacuated from the company were able to return to the next house.

No reports of victims of this incident have been received.
