“So far, we have all worked together to reduce the spread of the virus and we have all overcome the second wave. The government had to make unpleasant but necessary decisions at the end of last year, and many of them remain in force. The most important result of these efforts is a significant reduction in the number of lives lost.
Today I ask again for patience, concentration and understanding, although fatigue weakens the determination to respect the limitations of quarantine on a day-to-day basis. Our main objective is to prevent the third wave from demanding new great sacrifices. We are seeing an increase in the number of cases again in many European countries, seeing cities, regions or all countries returning to strict quarantine.

The government seeks to minimize the number of new cases while keeping competition to a minimum for what is currently open. For us to be successful, it is important to work together: comply with safety rules, communicate proactively, and get vaccinated.
Unlike what happened at the end of last year, vaccination is no longer a newly approved solution but a difficult one. I invite you to trust the achievements of science. We already have three different vaccines and we will have even more. This month alone, all the vaccines we have received so far will arrive in Lithuania. All vaccines used in Lithuania are safe. The vaccine will not only protect everyone who is vaccinated, but it will also create a safer environment for others. I appeal to those who have already come to vaccinate and I urge those who doubt to do so. Each of your shoulders for vaccination is so that everyone has the opportunity to live the way we yearn for again.
I think and thank everyone every day: doctors, teachers, social workers, policemen and shooters, I am grateful to all the volunteers, to all who create a job or wait for the opportunity to open the door. For every Lithuanian: patience and understanding that anger will not solve this difficult situation.
Let’s protect each other. Those efforts are particularly significant now. I asked for this at Christmas, and I will ask the same until there are no more beds in the hospitals that the covid has stopped suffering from other diseases. There are still more than 600 of them now, making it difficult for our loved ones to get the other help they need.
The government is doing everything it can to end this period of confusion, restraint and loss as soon as possible. Let us await the Feast of the Resurrection with hope, but at the same time let us do what we can all.
