As you leave Vilnius, traffic jams are already forming: the police are launching more forces

On Friday afternoon, Dainius Daukantas, Head of the Vilnius Police Chief Commissariat, Public Order Board, presented the control situation on the Vilnius-Kaunas highway.

More police officers were used

According to D. Daukantas, in the event of extremely heavy vehicle traffic, a larger number of police officers will have to be called in to help.

“The posts are already working. We really work harder. There will be a lot of law enforcement both today and over the weekend, with the aim of ensuring compliance with quarantine requirements.

In short, our desire is to protect those people who are protecting themselves, wanting to avoid that disease. It will also help those who do not understand for themselves that there is less need to move and meet certain requirements ”, says D. Daukantas.

Police stations are fixed and mobile

D. Daukantas mentioned to journalists that the checkpoints will not only be stationary, but also mobile. Long-distance public transportation will also receive police attention.

“The poles will be both stationary and mobile. We will also work in train stations, we will also stop at the bus station, although the buses circulate on the same roads, they can also be controlled at checkpoints.

“We will really take a lot of steps to help people and protect them from insidious diseases,” the official says.

Police hope drivers don’t have to wait long

D. Daukantas also examined the issue of congestion. The official hopes that residents are aware during the long weekend and that the flows are not those in which people will have to wait a long time.

“During heavier traffic, we will work harder. Congestion is caused by two things: high traffic flow and the number of control officers. More forces will work.

If we see that there are traffic problems, it is really possible to change the operation of the post, it is possible that the officials do not inspect all the vehicles, but selectively based on who is driving, how many people, what car and so on. We hope that these flows are not such and it will not be necessary to reduce the control functions ”, hopes D. Daukantas.

The responsibility will also be updated in the resorts

We remind you that today the Deputy Commissioner General of the Lithuanian Police Arūnas Paulauskas presented the measures that will be applied throughout the holiday weekend.

Not only residents who travel will be screened, but also those who have come to resorts hoping to rest.

“Before the long weekends, the most traffic comes from the big cities. Still, people are trying to get to those resorts. When it comes to resort towns, there is a completely different trend. Traffic is being monitored that try to get to those resorts.

Our officials on tourist campuses, often in places of interest, simply see where people have arrived, introduce themselves, approach and ask to justify why they are here, on what basis they came from which municipality and assess whether they are here legally. .

Responsibility is provided for travel between municipalities and it is not necessary to detain a person, somewhere on the border between municipalities, “at the border.” If a person is detained in another municipality and is identified as having crossed the border illegally a few days ago or on the same day and entered another municipality, it is treated as a violation ”, says A. Paulauskas.

Restrictions apply throughout the long weekend.

Tv3.lt reminds that from 2021. March 27 00:00 to 2021 April 6 24:00 On the territory of the Republic of Lithuania, the movement of people between municipalities is restricted.

Movement is only allowed between the adjacent municipalities of the city and Alytus district, Kaunas city and district, Klaipėda city and district, Panevėžys city and district, Šiauliai city and district, Vilnius city and district.

Exceptions apply when people go to the municipality where they live; when moving to another municipality due to the death of close relatives. Furthermore, movement is not restricted when a person moves between municipalities for work, medical care or travels to or from international passenger routes at or from airports, seaports, bus stations.

Travel is also allowed for other objectively justified urgent reasons, when travel to a municipality other than your residence is unavoidable. The restriction does not apply to members of the same family or household who move to a municipality other than their own, where they have a property.
