“Although it is common to use swear words on the Internet by changing Lithuanian letters to Latin, it is still possible to observe positive changes in correct spelling. In my opinion, this is mainly influenced by the most convenient possibilities of using Lithuanian letters on computers and smart devices. In order to promote the correct Lithuanian language on the Internet, change consumer habits of writing on sponges and draw attention to the technical possibility of using the native language in domain names, in 2014 the Lithuanian Union of Computer Scientists started a contest for the most beautiful Lithuanian Internet name. The idea was supported by the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), the State Lithuanian Language Commission (VLKK) and the association that unites information and communication technology companies Infobalt.
Out of all the .lt domain names registered with unique Lithuanian letters, the names of the operational websites are selected for the competition each year. The domain name is evaluated for consistency, sound, and meaning, and the domain name reflects the content of the website.
This year, the contest organizers selected the following twelve domains for online voting: auksinėžuvelė.lt, infinybėsširdis.lt, burymaižiai.lt, sea.lt, klajojančiosistorijos.lt, nepaleisksvajonės.lt, nešiukšlė.lt, neužmiršk.lt, sharotas.lt, šatrijosugnis.lt, perekosužrašai.lt, švaruolis.lt.
