Klaipeda municipality aims to collect as many fines as possible from drivers who parked cars out of place. Klaipėda residents are convinced of this, forced to violate the Traffic Rules against their will, because in some cases they have no other way out. According to the representatives of the municipality, it is planned to raise 400 thousand. euro fines.

Behind the wiper: a thin sheet

Rumpiškės Street is currently being renovated, three yards have been erected.

Darija from Klaipeda came to her mother, who lives in one of the houses on this street, and brought her food. The woman around didn’t find where to park the machines.

“I parked the car in a place where part of it was under a sign that prohibited me from staying there. But I had no other choice. When I returned from my mother, I found a slip on a windshield wiper that indicated that I had to pay a fine of 30 € “said Darija.

The woman assured that she had no other alternatives, especially since the patios were being repaired, so the parking spaces were further reduced.

Offers to cover the sign

According to Klaipėda, taking into account the situation, the city authorities could at least temporarily remove the sign that prohibits staying there.

“There are many older people who live in these houses, relatives come to them, bring essential goods and there is nowhere to stop. Now each visit to my mother will cost me 30 to 60 euros, because I have no choice but to park in one place prohibited”. Klaipeda resident asked.

It would be possible to temporarily cover the sign and allow cars to be built there while the yards are maintained.

According to Klaipėda, this would be a logical and European solution, taking into account the needs of the population at this time.

Will the city look for a solution?

Marius Poimanskis, head of the Klaipeda Municipality Administrative Activity Branch, said the specialists would never go to inspect cars parked off-site without reports from residents.

“We only go to the yards when we get complaints. If there is a prohibited sign, you can’t park a car. I think that sign really isn’t there to look good, it does a job. If residents can’t get to their house or your loved ones, if there is no place to park cars, let them apply in the municipality, the Department of Transportation, we will look for a solution, “advised M. Poimanskis.

According to Klaipėda residents, city officials behave disrespectfully in this case, as such cases only prove that officials at all costs seek to punish as many people as possible and charge as many fines as possible.

M. Poimansky admitted that, in fact, the amount of fines planned to be charged is presented each year.

This year it is planned to raise 400 thousand. euros By May, 242 thousand had already been raised. euros

However, it is emphasized that road rules must be followed and no fines must be paid.
