Such a proposal was presented in the draft resolution “On Democracy and Freedom of Expression in the Seimas” registered by the representatives of the opposition Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens and the factions of the Labor Party.
“More than 300 thousand.” Individuals and individual non-governmental organizations appealed to the Seimas and its separate factions to draw attention to the problems of organization of work in the Seimas Human Rights Committee, as a result of which these people and organizations do not feel heard or represented, and see the threat of discrimination based on their views and beliefs. “
He also observes that there are cases in the Seimas, as in the Committee on Education and Science, in which the chairman of the committee A. Žukauskas categorically refuses to invite people with different beliefs to its meetings, and “thus restricts the right to these people to express their opinion. In the representation of the nation – in the Seimas, which contradicts the very essence of democracy and parliamentarism ”.
The authors of the draft resolution point out that the mediation mission entrusted to it, Sakartvele, according to the highest state politicians, was not managed by the president of the Foreign Affairs Commission Ž. Among other things, Pavilionis “did not collegially coordinate his position and publicly expressed statements with the Foreign Affairs Committee, although he, as chairman, does not represent a single person, but a collegiate unit of the Seimas.”
The initiators of the resolution see a trend that “there is a provision in the Seimas to create working groups for the elaboration of laws, to which representatives of the opposition are not invited.”
Therefore, the authors of the resolution urge “Seimas leaders to ensure that all Lithuanian people are heard and represented in the Nation’s Representation, that people with different beliefs do not have the right to participate in open meetings of the committees and commissions of the Seimas, speak and express opinions in the committees or commissions of the Seimas “.
Seimas leaders are also encouraged to form working groups based on the principle of proportional representation of all Seimas factions.
The draft resolution was presented by Agnė Širinskienė, Arvydas Nekrošius, Valius Ąžuolas, Aurelijus Veryga, Eugenijus Jovaiša, Guoda Burokienė, Kęstutis Mažeika, Deividas Labanavičius, ė Norkien Au, Robegüsilien ,.
