In the Easter survey of loyal shoppers conducted by the Lithuanian retail chain Maxima, about 80 percent. respondents indicated that Easter is an important holiday for which they prepare.
According to Ernesta Dapkienė, director of the Communication and Image Department at Maxima, most customers expect to spend between 51 and 100 euros at Easter. A third of those surveyed will spend half for the celebration: 21-50 euros.
However, Lithuanians are not willing to spend the festive table: only one percent are willing to spend more than 200 euros on Easter dishes. buyers surveyed.

“Currently, the average shopping cart is almost 40 percent higher compared to the respective pre-pandemic period”, – calculates E.Dapkienė.

And the quantity of the last Easter basket did not differ much from the quantity of the pre-pandemic period in 2019, ”says a representative of the Iki network.
According to her, it is difficult to calculate the exact amount of the current basket due to the change in shopper habits: people visit supermarkets less often but buy more. “Usually our compatriots are preparing for the holidays at the last minute, but the pandemic has significantly changed their habits, which is why we felt the beginning of Easter shopping two weeks ago. This has never happened before, “says the representative of” Iki “.
Still, not everyone felt the influx of buyers. Renata Keršienė, Director of Public Relations at Rimi Lietuva, says that last weekend the retail chain did not notice a greater number of customers and a greater interest in Easter products. “It shows that the preparations for Easter are happening this week,” he says.
When asked if Lithuanians tend to save, V.Budrienė notes the increase in demand for discounted products, but adds that as the holidays approach, people are choosing more expensive products. “We would distinguish two categories: those who buy with stocks and those who buy more expensive goods. Before the pandemic, balance prevailed, there was not much difference between these categories,” he says.
News portal lrytas.lt Retailers interviewed noted an increase in sales of Easter decorations. “We sell 2.5 times more Easter decorations than last Easter. This means that people have accepted the pandemic, they want to decorate their homes and create a festive and welcoming atmosphere,” says V.Budrienė. Sales of other products also increased. Easter: eggs, mayonnaise, duck, pork and confectionery.
According to R.Keršienė, the Easter basket is always smaller than the Christmas one. “We hope that this year’s Easter basket is an intermediate option between the traditional Easter and last year, when Easter coincided with the start of the pandemic and sales were completely different,” expects the representative of Rimi Lietuva.
