The police will randomly search stores on Easter weekend; residents can also report violations

In March alone, the police inspected 8,137 businesses, including outlets. 158 economic operators were warned, 14 lawsuits were initiated for the infractions identified.

“The activities of businesses, as well as other economic entities, are among the priority activities of the police, ensuring control of the quarantine regime, and will continue to be controlled,” says the comment from the Police Department.

It is clarified that both normally and during the Easter holidays, the controls are carried out randomly, also in response to the notifications received.

“Supermarkets must ensure that people comply with the space, distances and other restrictions established in supermarkets, as well as that people do not gather at the entrance of supermarkets. The police will respond to the reports received and there will be random inspections of supermarkets. As a consequence of the infractions detected, the responsibility may extend both to those in charge of supermarkets and to people ”, warn the officials.

The risk is high: failure to comply with quarantine requirements can lead to administrative penalties of between 1,500 and 6,000 euros. Another risk is the possibility of even stricter restrictions.

“There is a risk that if morbidity increases, the government may re-introduce restrictions at the points of sale,” the Police Department warns store owners.

Police, who monitor quarantine requirements, mobilize additional forces for Easter.

During the festive period, not only the control of movement between municipalities will be strengthened, but also the control of public spaces, self-isolation and economic entities. Police support will be provided by police sponsors, Lithuanian police schools, PAGD, SBGS, VST, military police officers, members of the Lithuanian Rifles Union and municipal employees, ”the comment said.

Celebrate at home, be patient

The police advise not to go to other municipalities during the holidays, celebrate Easter at home, keep your distance, be responsible and accommodating, wait for this difficult period for everyone.

“Communication with officials and their assistants must be patient and understanding, even if you have to waste time in traffic jams. Officials fulfill their functions and strive to protect the population (especially the elderly and at risk) of the spread of the virus and its most serious consequences However, those traveling for important reasons should have documents confirming the need for the trip, to prepare them for inspection just before the post, to accurately answer questions from officials. This will help reduce the likelihood of traffic jams and misunderstandings, ”the comment said.

Merchants request to make purchases in advance; shops will be closed on sundays

Large retail chains operating in Lithuania have been reporting for some time that they will be closed on Sundays and are urging shoppers to plan their purchases in advance so they don’t have larger in-store gatherings.

No major retail chains will be open on Easter Sunday, April 4. In some places, the working hours before and after these holidays will also be reduced.

As previously announced, the Maxima, Iki and Lidl Lietuva stores will be closed on Sunday and will open as usual on Monday, the second day of Easter. Norfa stores will be closed on Sundays and less the day before and after holidays: Saturdays until 8 pm and Mondays from 9 am to 9 pm.

The Rimi retail chain has announced that no Rimi stores will be open on the first day of Easter, but will operate regular hours on the second day. However, it is recalled that after the extension of the quarantine, some stores of the Rimi retail chain work fewer hours.
