According to her, it is suspected that men who practice underwater fishing do so with rifles; this fishing in the Papil pond is prohibited.

“This fishing is allowed only in a few bodies of water, in the Papilis pond, it is prohibited,” said M. Ramanauskienė.

He also said environmentalists had previously had data on illegal spearfishing at Papilio Pond.

“It just came to our attention then. In fact, we also had information about that body of water more than once and we tried to catch poachers. This is one of the most serious infractions in fishing. We got information that people they are hunting at night when it is dark, ”said the head of the Panevėžys Wildlife Inspectorate.

According to her, such underwater hunting at such times of the year and day is not common and everyday, but such cases do occur.

Environmentalists say they have found two illegally caught sea bream, five ropes and six carp on the shore of Papil pond, and the environmental damage amounts to 1.3 thousand. euros.
