Inga Aukštuolytė, Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Tez Tour, said that in the tourism sector, spring is a traditional time for Easter trips, when it is possible to go to resorts abroad with the whole family due to the week-long school holidays.
“Recently, travel has become a very popular commodity – people tired of quarantine restrictions want to travel – to change the environment, enjoy a carefree break in foreign resorts, enjoy the summer heat.
And during school holidays, the demand for travel tends to increase even more. About 2,000 travelers opted for trips abroad during the Easter period. People are willing to opt for longer vacation periods. More than 30 percent. “Travelers stay in a hotel for 11 to 12 nights or even leave for two weeks, when previously the most popular travel length was 7 to 9 nights,” said a representative of the tour operator.
They are spending the holidays with the families
According to her, some travelers leave to plan longer stays abroad and some time to work remotely.
“Also for fewer worries at home. For example, inclusive catering and a wide range of entertainment for the little ones. Turkey is turning into companies with friends, where children are more engaged with each other, so that adults also have time to be in the company of friends. It is also popular to go on vacation with other close relatives, such as grandparents.
More and more enthusiasts of active leisure and various sports are traveling abroad in groups: diving, kitesurfing or sailing, playing golf. We believe this was influenced by closed sports clubs and ski trips, which many did not attend this year, ”said I. Aukštuolytė.
According to her, the addresses currently in demand are Egypt and the Canary Island of Tenerife.
Tenerife, like all of Spain, is a Christian and Catholic country, so travelers who stay in a larger city during the Easter holidays or who simply go by rental car or bus will be able to admire various religious marches or taste the Traditional dish of this holiday – donuts with anise.
Since April, when the weather is already summer, we have resumed trips to Turkey. The average cost of the trip at Easter is 600 to 700 euros per person. About half of Lithuanian tourists choose Turkey for their holidays, which is why this address is in high demand. Tourists with the whole family form a very large group of tourists, to whom special attention has long been paid in Turkey; many of the best hotels focus on family recreation, ”commented I. Aukštuolytė.
It is safe to travel, but there have also been cases of patients with coronavirus
Dovilė Zapkutė, the communication manager of the tour operator Novaturas, said that the Easter period was always in demand, because generally these holidays coincide with school holidays.
This year, people have been working remotely for some time, students have lessons on the same principle, so the so-called ‘work permit’, when tourists combine holidays with children’s work or studies, it is popular not only during the Easter period.
It is at this time, almost a year later, when Turkey opens, to the resorts that we have been flying to since the first day of April. Flights are scheduled almost daily, and that flight schedule is very convenient for travelers, allowing flexible planning of their vacations, from a short stay of several nights of everyday life to a longer vacation, ”said D Zapkutė.
According to her, a 7-night stay with meals included in a 4 to 5-star hotel in Turkey costs from 280 euros per person and in Egypt from 350 euros.
“Individuals, couples and families with children travel on vacation. Travelers know that when they return to Lithuania they will have to isolate themselves, they assess this obligation responsibly. There is also a lot of discussion at the moment about whether it is safe to travel.
In terms of numbers, we started operating flights this year in February and to this day, 7 of our travelers who have been on holiday in Egypt have received positive Covid-19 test results before returning to Lithuania.
Flights to this country are operated several times a week, with an average of around 180 passengers flying in an airplane. To ensure the safety of travelers, we insist that passengers have negative test results both when leaving and returning to Lithuania, and fill in all the necessary questionnaires, ”said the representative of the tour operator.
Fewer travelers
Other tour operators point out that due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are fewer travelers this Easter.
Gvidas Aukštuolis, head of the tour operator Tiketa Tour, said that, unlike before, this year’s interest in travel is not related to the Easter holidays or other dates.
“Customers are inclined to plan their vacations, taking into account the situation in the country chosen for the vacation in the fight against Covid-19, applied measures, security requirements, hotel policy.
So we cannot say that the people of our country will spend Easter elsewhere. People plan their trips carefully, giving priority to safety ”, explained the representative of the tour operator.
According to him, this year is not easy for tourism.
“Foreign countries whose economies are strongly linked to tourism are doing their best to adapt to the new circumstances. So, fighting the coronavirus is one of their most important tasks. Hotels and other players in the tourism industry apply security measures extremely strict and significantly change pricing policies.
After an active negotiation with them, we have opened this season at special prices for trips to Turkey and Egypt, where the weekly rest in five-star hotels is less than 300 euros ”, said G. Aukštuolis.
Tickets are still available
Daiva Strumskienė, sales manager of the tour operator Itaka, also indicated that in April and during the Easter period a program of minimum charter flights is being implemented.
“Currently we fly once a week to Madeira in Portugal and once a week to the Egyptian town of Marsa Alama. Therefore, the number of tourists who went abroad with our organizer during Easter is about 350 people.
It should be noted that the Madeira tourist center filled up faster. This was due to the resort’s decision to accept “safe” travelers without additional testing, that is, those who already have 2 vaccinations against Covid-19 or who have been ill in the last 90 days. Remaining travelers can enter the island after taking a test (either in advance in Lithuania or upon arrival in Madeira). And there are still places available in the Egyptian resort of Marsa Alam for the Easter weekend, that is, on April 3. for the flight. The price for a person with meals starts from 400 euros ”, commented the tour operator’s sales manager.
D. Stumskienė says that people are responsible, therefore it is not noticed that they travel in larger groups than they usually travel.
“On the contrary, we see that people are responsible and conscientious. However, we have noticed that individual family farms travel for a longer period of time, thus combining the possibilities of telecommuting, science and environmental change ”, explained the sales manager of the tour operator.
