Šimonytė: now we clearly have two Lithuanians

“It just came to our knowledge then. You try to think of yourself and adapt that situation to yourself. From the beginning, in February, when there were signs of improvement, when things will open up faster here, I kept trying to stop the enthusiasm, I said that we had to avoid the roller coaster more, when we open everything and then close everything. Poland is a great example: they have started to liberalize their activities, now everything is more or less closed there, “said the Prime Minister on the radio program news.

She argued that one should look at neighboring countries and hospital employment with one eye. This situation is worse in the Vilnius region.

“It is especially difficult, as the French president mentioned, when people need resuscitation. Because the number of single beds allows you to increase. But if a more complex treatment is needed, then it is more difficult,” said the Prime Minister.

“Now we are running against time, we are trying to vaccinate as many people as possible,” said the head of government.

I. Šimonytė promised that in April Lithuania would receive approximately 100,000. dose of coronavirus vaccine.

“I think that the fatigue and the uncertain situation, when it seems that at some point the situation is improving, then the Government comes out and says that it is not so well, it is not what was expected. Of course that creates tension, I think that’s enough. I’m really sorry, “he said.

The Prime Minister said that it is now necessary to maintain a positive situation in some municipalities of the country.

“I can only assure you that from what we know, we see, we observe, we try to do as little unnecessary things as possible. I agree that sometimes it is necessary to make more precise and difficult decisions than movement restrictions during these two weeks. But on the other hand, these restrictions protected Lithuania more so that the British strain of the virus did not spread more widely. Now we clearly have two Lithuanians, but there are definitely municipalities where the epidemiological situation is not bad, it is very important for us not to harm it ”, explained the Prime Minister.

When asked why it was decided to abandon the formation of social bubbles in different municipalities of the country during the Easter period, he said that we were trying to prevent the events of the end of last year.

“The bubbles stay in the same municipality, but since the offer was for everyone to receive Easter at home, I think the offer is consistent. This is a temporary solution. Because we learn from our own precedents, it was late fall. I would not like much greater mobility of people, more meetings to change the dynamics in the direction of the deterioration of the municipalities that are now in a more favorable situation. “I really want to keep what is best now, and where it is worst, do everything possible to improve the situation quickly,” he explained.

I. Šimonytė asked “not to shoot himself in the legs” during this period.

“My human request is that we do not shoot ourselves in the foot. Because the Government will not be able to control that situation on its own. Even if people expect it. There is a much bigger problem here, if many beds are needed, then Lithuania will not it can meet that demand like other countries, because too many people demand the same thing at the same time, “said I. The Prime Minister explained that the changes in the possible quarantine will depend on Holy Week. It is behavior that is too sacred to point in which direction it will go, softening or squeezing.

It will largely depend on our communication and adherence to the rules whether we can talk after Easter about how to safely open events, performances, cinemas and some other activities.
