“This morning, I will read the petition addressed to the Seimas by the Seimas Board on the decision adopted last Friday. I believe that this Thursday the Seimas should decide on this candidate and the removal procedure should be carried out,” said the president of the Seimas to reporters on Tuesday, before the Seimas morning session.
At the same time, he dismissed fears expressed by President Gitan Nauseda in an interview with BNS on Monday that there were trends in linking the Genocide Center to another institution.
“It just came to our notice then. The working group created by the Board met and met with all parties to the conflict, and the conclusion of the working group was unequivocal that it is still impossible to resolve the conflict with the current leadership and ensuring such a consistent and constructive work from the center. ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
ELTA recalls that at the end of January the staff of the center addressed the Seimas Spokesperson, concerned about the actions of the LGGRTC leadership. The speech noted that LGGRTC employees are concerned about the underestimation of historical science, directing historical research in the direction of ideologization and politicization.
It was noted that the LGGRTC leadership encourages the public to participate in the “defense of history” and the “wars of memory.”
Employees also expressed concern that the center has a tense emotional climate and that pressure from management is forcing experienced historians to leave their jobs. The outrage was expressed both by the director of LGGRTC A. Jakubauskas, as well as by the senior advisor, journalist, publicist and author of the books Vidmantas Valiušaitis who resigned. His competence to fill this position was questioned. After the tensions, V. Valiušaitis announced that he had resigned from his current position.
A. Jakubauskas was appointed director of the center in 2020 at the end of June.
