The insurance expert notes that the number of claims has returned to pre-quarantine levels in recent weeks.

“In March 2020, when the country was declared under quarantine, the roads really emptied. In Lietuvos Draudimas statistics, we instantly calculated a three-fold decrease in claim rates – we had around 400 claims per week, but this didn’t last long. The company’s risk specialists noted that traffic intensity had decreased significantly for just one month, after which the indicators began to gradually rise.

Comparing the beginning of this spring with the beginning of last year, we see a very small difference: in 2020. In the first weeks of March we registered 2,441 claims and now we have 2,572 ”, comments Artūras Juodeikis, Director of the Claims Department of Lietuvos Draudimas , analyzing the traffic accident.

Residents move intensively in cities

Company data shows that the highest number of movements and accidents is recorded in Vilnius, Klaipėda and the Kaunas district.

At the beginning of March last year, the number of accidents in Vilnius amounted to 369 per week, and at the beginning of March this year, in the same week, 371 accidents. A similar movement in other cities: in Klaipėda, last week 83 damages were registered per week, and in the same week of March last year, there were even less: 71 damages. Kaunas d. In March 2020, 45 injuries were recorded per week, compared to 50 last week.

The claims expert assumes that this could have happened for a number of reasons.

“By not being able to travel between municipalities, residents are actively moving in the cities: they come up with activities within their municipalities, they have also started operating even more outlets and the doors of schools for beginners have been opened.”

More than a million were paid in a week

Artūras Juodeikis notes that the amounts paid for damages are also returning to the pre-pandemic level, and in the first week of March the amount even surpassed in early March a year ago.

“Last year, a week before the quarantine was announced, the amount of damages amounted to 1,120,000. In the same week of this year, the amount of damages amounted to more than 1,330,000. euros, “says Artūras Juodeikis.

As for the amounts allocated to transportation damage in the districts, they have also returned to the previous level this year.
