Vilma Juodkazienė, food expert at retail chain Iki, shared tips on everyone’s favorite eggs and a recipe that will make the Easter table exclusive.

How to choose quality eggs?

In preparation for the long Easter weekend, you must first choose quality eggs. According to V. Juodkazienė, it is no less important to pay attention to the way they are stored and prepared.

“When buying eggs, the most important thing to pay attention to is their shelf life: this is the main quality criterion. Although most people are used to storing eggs in the refrigerator, this product does not require a strict regimen temperature so you can also store them at room temperature Of course keeping the eggs at a higher positive temperature will result in a shorter shelf life.

Make sure to wash the eggs before using them. It is best to soak them in a warm soda solution, then wash under running water and drain. When breaking an unwashed egg, salmonella or other bacteria can enter it, so it is necessary to respect hygiene ”, advises V. Juodkazienė.

One food expert says that checking if an egg is fresh is quite difficult, so when choosing eggs from a store, check first to see if they are broken. If there are suspicions about the quality of the eggs after they are brought home or kept at home longer, you can try a popular method of checking the quality of an egg: putting the egg in water and making sure it lands on the bottom. The longer the eggs are kept, the more air enters them through the shell, so the obsolete and unfit for consumption eggs will be lighter, submerged in water will rise to the surface.

According to V. Juodkazienė, there is no difference between white and brown eggs, and their firmness does not depend on the color, but on the age of the hen. But most importantly, it is a way of raising chickens, so it is advisable to choose eggs from chickens kept in bed.

Don’t throw away the eggshells

The food expert urges not to rush to toss the eggshells, because they are also good for the body. Eggshells are rich in calcium, as well as copper, fluorine, iron, phosphorus, zinc, and other trace elements that the body needs.

“You can make a natural food supplement from eggshells. Rinse the eggs well and rinse under warm running water, boil in the water for a few minutes, then peel and remove the film on the inside of the eggs.

Place the eggshells for a few hours in a dark, well-ventilated place to allow them to dry and, after drying, crumble to a powdery consistency. With this eggshell powder you can flavor dishes or simply use them as a complement, mixed with a few drops of lemon juice ”, says the expert in a press release.

On the occasion of Easter, V. Juodkazienė shares an original French-inspired egg dish. You won’t believe it, but surprising the family with eggs is definitely possible! The method of making this dish is extremely simple and you can change the ingredients to your liking.
