It stipulates, among other things, that children under the age of two are not required to enter the Immigration Department or a consular office to issue or exchange an identity card or passport.
It is also proposed to introduce a shorter period of validity for identity documents issued to children.
The new wording stipulates that an identity card or passport will be issued to a citizen not older than five years for a maximum of two years.
Currently there is a provision that establishes that documents are issued to citizens under 16 years of age for a maximum of five years.
Under the new regime, more citizens of honorable age will be able to change their identity documents less frequently: Citizens aged 70 and over will receive an identity card for 30 years. People over the age of 75 now receive the card for 20 years.
Adults must change passports every ten years, as before.
Under the new provisions, as of July 1 of next year, at the request and at the expense of the citizen, his new identity card or his new passport may be delivered safely in the specified place.
Identity documents can be sent only if the citizen can confirm their identity upon receipt, and their personal data will not change in the new documents: name, surname, sex, date of birth, personal identification code. The Department of Migration or the consular office will only issue a valid identity document or passport when it receives information about the service of documents sent safely.
Currently, only citizens living abroad can use this service.
The main procedure and the conditions for the issuance of documents remain unchanged.
It is stipulated that citizens living in Lithuania from the age of 16 must have a valid identity card or passport.
The data in the documents will be entered in Lithuanian characters, the name (s) and the surname of the citizen, according to the procedure established by the Lithuanian laws and other legal acts.
The Immigration Department must issue or change the identity card and passport no later than one month, and the Lithuanian consular office no later than two months.
